How to write the career objective or summary
A BTech fresher resume should open with a clear objective, not a long inspirational paragraph. In the sample above, Ananya states her degree, core technical strengths, internship exposure and target roles. That tells a campus recruiter or off-campus hiring team why she is relevant for graduate engineer trainee and software trainee openings.
Keep this section to 3–4 lines. Mention your branch, graduation year, strongest technical areas and the kind of role you want. If your branch is not Computer Science but you are applying for software roles, show evidence: programming projects, an internship, GitHub, data structures or certifications.
Strong objective: “B.Tech Electronics and Communication graduate with Python, Java, SQL and embedded systems projects, seeking graduate engineer trainee or software trainee roles.”
Weak objective: “To work in a reputed company where I can improve my skills and contribute to success.”

Put education where it helps most
For a fresher, education can come before experience because recruiters often shortlist by degree, branch, CGPA and graduation year. In the sample above, the B.Tech entry appears with CGPA, then Class 12 and Class 10 percentages. This is normal in India for campus placement, entry-level engineering roles and applications where academic cut-offs matter.
Use one consistent format for marks. If your college gives CGPA, write “CGPA 8.2/10”. If your school marks are in percentage, write “86.4%”. Do not convert marks unless the employer asks for a specific conversion. If you have a low score in one exam, do not hide the education entry; instead, make projects, internship and skills stronger.
Include only useful academic detail. Subjects such as Data Structures, DBMS, Operating Systems, Digital Electronics or Communication Systems can be mentioned if they support your target role, but do not list every semester subject. Our BTech fresher resume guide has more examples for CSE, ECE, Mechanical and other branches.
How to present projects when you have limited experience
Projects are the strongest proof on a BTech fresher resume. In the sample above, Ananya includes a final-year IoT project, a Java and MySQL placement tracker and a robotics club project. Each one shows a different skill: hardware integration, database thinking and practical teamwork.
Write project descriptions in simple result-focused language. Mention the problem, tools used, your role and the output. If the project was completed by a team, be honest about your contribution. For example, “coordinated a 4-member team and built the Python dashboard” is better than claiming full ownership of everything.
Good project bullet: “Created a Java and MySQL mini project to record eligible students, company visits and shortlist status for a mock placement workflow.”
Weak project bullet: “Made a placement project using Java.”
GitHub links help only when the repository is tidy, with a README, screenshots if relevant and clear setup instructions. If the code is messy or incomplete, improve it before adding the link. You can also browse student resume templates if you want a layout that gives projects enough space.
Internship, achievements and responsibility sections
Even an 8-week internship can be valuable if you describe it well. In the sample above, the internship bullets mention validation screens, SQL duplicate checks and test cases. These are small tasks, but they show workplace habits: following instructions, documenting defects and working with real data.
Avoid exaggerating an internship into senior-level ownership. A recruiter will not expect a fresher to design a full enterprise system. They will expect curiosity, discipline, basic technical ability and the maturity to explain what you learned.
Achievements and positions of responsibility add personality when they are relevant. Hackathons, technical fests, coding contests, paper presentations, club roles and event coordination can show initiative. Keep them short and factual. A line such as “Runner-up, College Hackathon, 2025” is stronger than a paragraph about passion.
Skills and certifications for campus and off-campus roles
A fresher skills list should match the jobs you are applying for. In the sample above, Python, Java, SQL, data structures, Arduino, Git and documentation skills are all credible for an ECE graduate targeting software trainee roles. Do not list technologies you cannot answer basic interview questions about.
Separate technical skills from soft skills where possible. Technical skills help screening; soft skills such as teamwork, communication and presentation are useful when backed by projects, clubs or internship examples. Certifications from NPTEL, Coursera or similar platforms can help, but they should not push projects off the first page.

Formatting and common mistakes
A BTech fresher resume should usually fit one page. Use A4 size, standard headings and enough white space. The Fresher Simple template works well because it puts education, projects and skills first. If you are applying through large company portals, you can also compare ATS-friendly templates.
Do not add date of birth, marital status, father’s name, full address or a declaration unless the college placement cell or employer specifically asks. In modern private-sector hiring, these details are usually unnecessary. Also avoid copying the same objective from classmates; recruiters notice repeated wording.
Finally, proofread every project and date. Your B.Tech dates, internship period, certification months and project timeline should all make sense. A clean, honest fresher resume is more effective than a crowded page with inflated claims.
