Describe the chemical plant and unit operations
Chemical plants differ a lot, so a recruiter first needs to understand what kind of plant you work in. State the industry (specialty chemicals, agrochemicals, pharma API, dyes, petrochemicals, fertilisers), the operation type (batch or continuous) and the unit operations you handle, such as reactions, distillation, crystallisation, filtration, drying or evaporation.
A line like "shift production for 8 reactors, 45 MT a month of agrochemical intermediates" makes your experience concrete. Recruiters in chemical clusters like Vapi, Ankleshwar, Dahej and Hyderabad often hire for a particular chemistry or process, so naming yours helps them match you faster.
Chemical engineer achievements: yield, recovery and safety
The results that matter in chemical plants are yield, batch cycle time, solvent recovery, utilities consumption, effluent load and safety. Build your bullets around them instead of generic duties like "monitoring the process".
- Raised batch yield from 86% to 91% by optimising addition rate and temperature.
- Increased solvent recovery from 88% to 95%, saving about ₹38 lakh a year.
- Cut ETP COD load by 15% by reusing mother liquor in a washing step.
Show that you work safely and keep records properly. Mention HAZOP participation, permit-to-work, PSM elements and documents such as BMRs or logbooks, because auditors and plant heads value engineers who keep both production and compliance in order.
Software, GATE and fresher chemical resumes
Simulation tools such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS or ChemCAD are valued for process and design roles, while DCS experience and SAP entries matter more on the production side. List the tools you have used for real work or a substantial project, and keep training-only tools in a separate line.
Freshers should describe in-plant training, the unit operations they observed, and their final-year design project with plant capacity and key equipment. A good GATE score is worth mentioning if you are applying to public sector units or postgraduate programmes. Show willingness for shift work and plant locations, since many chemical plants sit in industrial estates outside the main cities. Mention any lab work on reaction kinetics or separation experiments if it relates to the plant you are applying to, and keep the whole resume on one page.
Format and template for engineering resumes
Plant heads, project managers and HR teams at manufacturing, infrastructure and EPC companies usually shortlist from Naukri, LinkedIn or a referral, often on a phone between shifts or site visits. A clean, single-column layout with clear headings such as Summary, Technical Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications works best, and it also passes applicant tracking systems used by larger groups.
Lead each job with the plant, site or product you handled: "two-wheeler chassis line, 1,200 units a day" or "G+14 residential tower, 2.1 lakh sq ft". Then show results in numbers recruiters understand: OEE, PPM rejection, downtime hours, cost saved, schedule met, safe man-hours. List software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, STAAD.Pro, SAP, Primavera) and standards (IS codes, ISO 9001, IATF 16949) by their exact names. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. A photo and date of birth are optional; leave them out unless the employer asks.
