What an Indian resume format should include
A practical Indian resume format is usually simple: contact details, summary, work experience or internships, education, skills, projects, certifications and languages if relevant. For most private-sector jobs, this is enough. The goal is to help the recruiter quickly understand your role, experience level, location and fit for the vacancy.
Some older formats include a photo, date of birth, marital status, father’s name, full address and a declaration. These are usually unnecessary for private-sector jobs unless the employer or application form asks for them. Government and PSU recruitment often uses its own application forms, so follow those instructions separately instead of forcing every detail onto the resume.
A declaration line is optional. If you include it for a traditional college or local employer format, keep it short: “I declare that the information above is true to the best of my knowledge.” Many modern resumes omit it completely.
For a broad writing structure, see the resume guide for freshers or the general how to make a resume guide.
Education, marks and fresher details
Freshers in India often need more education detail than experienced candidates. Include degree, branch or specialisation, college, university, year and CGPA or percentage. If your 10th and 12th marks are relevant for campus placement or the employer asks for them, add them neatly. If you have several years of work experience, school marks can usually be removed.
Use one clear marks style. Do not convert CGPA to percentage unless your university gives an official conversion rule or the application asks for it. If you write “CGPA: 8.2/10”, that is clear. If you write a percentage, mention the scale only when it avoids confusion.
Projects matter for BTech, BCA, MCA and other technical freshers. A better project line says, “Built a hostel complaint tracking web app using Laravel, MySQL and Bootstrap” instead of “Mini project in web development.” The BTech fresher resume guide explains how to present projects, internships, technical skills and campus placement details.
The Fresher Simple template works well when education and projects should come before experience. Classic and Simple ATS are safer when applying through larger portals.
Personal details, CTC and notice period
Add your city and willingness to relocate if it helps the application. For example, “Pune, open to relocate to Bengaluru or Hyderabad” is useful for many entry-level and IT roles. Languages known can be included when they matter for the job, such as sales, teaching, customer support, healthcare or regional operations.
Current CTC, expected CTC and notice period are normally shared in application forms, recruiter calls or interviews, not on the resume. Add them only if the employer specifically asks for those details in the resume. The same applies to references; “available on request” is not necessary unless requested.
For most private-sector applications, keep personal details limited to what helps hiring: name, phone, email, city, LinkedIn, portfolio or website. Photo is optional only when requested. Passport Classic is useful when an employer asks for a photo; Classic, Professional and Simple ATS suit most other applications.
Applying through Indian job channels
Indian job seekers often use a mix of Naukri, LinkedIn, company career portals, campus placement cells, email referrals and consultant forms. PDF works widely across these channels, but always follow the employer’s specified format if they give one. If a company asks for a particular template, file name or portal upload rule, that instruction wins.
A4 is the practical page size for Indian applications. Keep margins clean and avoid squeezing too much text into tiny fonts. Recruiters may view the file on a laptop, phone or printed copy, so readability matters more than decoration.
When applying through portals that store and search resumes, use standard headings such as Experience, Education, Skills, Projects and Certifications. Avoid placing important details only inside icons or graphics. If ATS-friendly formatting is a priority, read the ATS resume builder page before choosing a design.
You can compare examples for different Indian profiles, including a BTech fresher resume, teacher resume and accountant resume.
Payments and downloads in India
You can build, edit and preview your resume for free. Downloading the PDF needs a one-time plan from ₹99. Payments are handled in INR via Razorpay, with common options such as UPI, cards, net banking and wallets. Payments are one-time; there is no subscription, no auto-renewal and nothing to cancel.
There are two plans: ₹99 for the Monthly Plan (1 month) and ₹499 for the Yearly Plan (1 year). Both include unlimited CVs, premium templates and watermark-free PDF downloads, so you can fix a detail and download again while your access is active. You can pay as a guest or log in or sign up first.
Before paying, preview the resume carefully. Check phone number, email, spelling of college and company names, dates, CGPA or percentage, links and file name. For Indian applications, a file name such as Aditi-Verma-Resume.pdf is clear and professional.
Template choices for Indian applications
For most private-sector jobs, choose Classic, Professional, Simple ATS or Modern Blue. They look polished without adding unnecessary personal details. For freshers, Fresher Simple gives education, projects and skills enough space. For applications where a photo is specifically requested, Passport Classic keeps the photo in a traditional position without overwhelming the page.
If you use the free resume builder, you can switch templates before download without retyping your details. If your employer uses the word CV instead of resume, the CV maker page explains when a longer or photo-based CV may be appropriate.
A good Indian resume is not about adding every possible field. It is about giving the employer the facts they need, in the format they asked for, with clean PDF output. When your details are ready, build your Indian resume and preview it on A4 before download.
