Define your credit segment and ticket size

Credit teams are organised by segment: retail, SME, mid-corporate, large corporate, project finance or rating agency work. A recruiter needs to see your segment and ticket size immediately. Write "Credit analyst with 4 years appraising SME proposals from ₹50 lakh to ₹25 crore" rather than "experienced in credit and finance".

Name the products too: working capital limits, term loans, LAP, supply-chain finance or unsecured business loans. A credit analyst from housing finance and one from corporate banking do very different work, and recruiters shortlist accordingly.

If you have presented files to a sanction or credit committee yourself, say so clearly. It shows that senior credit officers trust your analysis and that you can defend a recommendation under questioning, which is exactly what the next level of credit roles requires.

Credit analyst bullets that show judgement and asset quality

Lenders hire credit analysts to protect the book, so asset quality is your strongest proof. Pair volume with outcome.

  • Weak: "Did credit appraisal of loan files."
  • Strong: "Appraised 25 to 30 SME proposals a month; approved files held a 90+ DPD rate of 1.1% against a 2.6% benchmark."
  • Strong: "Flagged circular trading in 3 proposals through GST and bank statement analysis, avoiding ₹6 crore of exposure."

Also show turnaround time, because business teams care about speed. Mention the analysis you actually perform: spreading, DSCR and FOIR, banking analysis, bureau checks, site visits and security valuation.

Qualifications and tools for credit roles in banks and NBFCs

An MBA in finance, CA, CA Inter or CFA level is common in this field; list your highest qualification first. IIBF certificates such as the Certified Credit Professional, or a rating-agency training programme, help when moving from a co-operative or small bank to a large lender.

List tools precisely: Excel modelling, loan origination systems, bureau portals, Perfios or similar bank statement analysers if your employer used them. Freshers should add a project, such as a credit appraisal of a listed mid-cap company using annual reports, with ratios, DSCR and a recommendation. Keep the language formal, because your resume is also a sample of your credit writing.

Format and template for finance and banking resumes

Finance recruiters, bank HR teams and CA firm partners expect a conservative, easy-to-audit resume. Use a single-column or restrained two-column layout with standard headings: Summary, Key Skills, Experience, Education, Professional Qualifications and Certifications. Avoid heavy colour, graphics and skill bars, because many banks and NBFCs screen applications through an applicant tracking system first.

Put professional qualifications (CA, CMA, CS, CFA, NISM, IRDAI, IIBF) near the top with the level cleared and the year, and add your membership number only if the role requires it. Write numbers the Indian way, in lakh and crore, and attach a scale to every bullet: portfolio size, number of ledgers, loan files, audit observations or closing days. Keep it to one page for under five years of experience and two pages for managers. Leave out photo, date of birth and a declaration unless the employer asks. Before uploading to Naukri or a bank portal, check the ATS-friendly resume guide.

Frequently asked questions

Most banks and NBFCs prefer an MBA in finance, CA, CA Inter or a commerce degree with CFA levels. Strong ratio analysis, Excel skills and clear report writing matter as much as the degree.
Yes, if you can share them at an aggregate level. A low delinquency rate on files you appraised is one of the strongest signals of good credit judgement.
Add a project where you appraised a real listed company using its annual report, with ratios, cash-flow analysis and a lend or decline recommendation. Internships at bank branches or NBFC credit desks also help.
