What exporters look for in an EXIM executive resume

EXIM roles are documentation-heavy, and one wrong HS code or an LC discrepancy can delay payment by weeks. Recruiters at exporters, importers and freight forwarders therefore look for proof of accuracy and familiarity with Indian systems. In your summary, state the product category (engineering goods, garments, chemicals, agri products, pharma), the ports or ICDs you work with (JNPT, Mundra, Chennai, Tughlakabad ICD), the shipment modes and your monthly volume.

For example: "EXIM executive with 3 years handling 35 to 45 export shipments a month from JNPT under FOB and CIF terms." This is much stronger than "knowledge of export-import procedures".

Naming ICEGATE, DGFT and incentive work correctly

Use the exact terms Indian employers search for, and only those you have actually handled:

  • Customs: shipping bills and bills of entry on ICEGATE, EGM follow-up, CHA coordination, HS classification.
  • DGFT: IEC updates, RoDTEP and drawback claims, Advance Authorisation or EPCG, certificates of origin, e-BRC.
  • GST: export under LUT, IGST refunds and matching of invoice data.
  • Commercial: Incoterms 2020, LC documents under UCP 600, insurance and freight booking.

Put results against these where you can: incentives recovered in ₹, zero LC discrepancies, faster refunds or fewer missed vessel cut-offs. If you handle imports too, mention bills of entry, duty payment and container detention you helped reduce.

Freshers and career growth in export-import

Many EXIM executives start as documentation assistants at a freight forwarder or CHA firm, and that experience is valuable. Describe the documents you prepared and the volume, not just the company name. B.Com or BBA freshers can add a certificate course in export-import procedures, an internship with a forwarder or an export house, and strong Excel skills.

If you are aiming for an export manager or logistics manager role, show broader work: freight rate negotiation, buyer communication on schedules, handling customs queries, or setting up a new port or ICD. Mention languages if you deal with overseas buyers. Keep the resume to one page and in a simple layout using our ATS-friendly resume guide, since many export houses still review resumes through Naukri searches.

Format and template for operations resumes

Operations and supply chain hiring in India is driven by numbers: on-time dispatch, inventory accuracy, cost per shipment, fill rate, OTIF and audit scores. Use a clean single-column layout with standard headings (Summary, Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications) so Naukri, LinkedIn and company ATS tools can parse it, and let each experience bullet carry at least one measurable result.

Name the systems you actually use, such as SAP MM, SAP WM or EWM, Oracle, Tally Prime, a WMS or TMS, and Excel with pivot tables. Mention the scale of your work: number of SKUs, warehouse area in sq ft, monthly purchase value, fleet size or containers handled. One page works up to about five years of experience; managers can use two. Skip photo, date of birth and declaration unless the employer asks. See our guide on writing resume experience for help turning daily duties into results.
