Lead your travel consultant resume with GDS and destinations

Travel agencies hire for two kinds of skill: technical booking skills and selling skills. Show both near the top. Mention the GDS you use (Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre), whether you handle issuance, reissue and refunds, and the products you sell, such as domestic packages, outbound holidays, MICE, pilgrimage tours or corporate ticketing.

Name your strongest destinations. A Gujarat-based agency selling Dubai, Thailand and Europe packages wants someone who knows those markets, visa rules and the kind of food and hotel requests Indian families make. "Travel professional with knowledge of tourism" says nothing; "Outbound consultant for Dubai, Thailand and Europe with Schengen visa experience" says a lot. Domestic specialists should name their circuits, such as Kerala, Kashmir or the Char Dham yatra.

Sales and visa numbers that prove your value

Agency owners judge consultants by revenue and conversion. Add numbers wherever you can:

  • Annual or monthly bookings value in lakh or crore.
  • Lead-to-booking conversion rate compared with the team.
  • Visa files prepared and approval rate.
  • Group departures handled and their size.
  • Savings delivered to corporate clients.

Keep confidential client names out, but describe the client type, such as "22 corporate accounts" or "community and family groups". Also show service under pressure, like urgent reissues, cancellations during disruptions or handling a stranded group, because these moments define a travel consultant's reputation.

Certifications and tips for new travel consultants

An IATA Foundation in Travel and Tourism certificate and GDS training from Amadeus, Galileo or Sabre are well recognised by Indian agencies and airlines. If you are a fresher, list these along with a BBA, BTTM or diploma in tourism, and describe any internship where you made bookings or itineraries.

Experienced consultants can add destination specialist courses offered by tourism boards. Keep the resume to one page or two at most, and mention languages because many clients prefer to speak in their own language. Weekend and holiday-season availability is important in this business, so mention it if true. For help with bullet wording, read our experience guide.

Format and template for hospitality and retail resumes

Hospitality and retail recruiters read quickly, often on a phone between shifts, so a clean one-page layout with clear headings works best. Put your current role, property or store type and years of experience at the top, followed by measurable results such as guest scores, upselling, sales targets or audit ratings.

A professional photo is normal and often expected for guest-facing roles such as cabin crew, front office, guest relations and some luxury retail jobs. Use a recent, well-lit photo in grooming standards similar to the job. For back-office, BPO and kitchen roles, a photo is optional.

List languages with honest levels, because Hindi, English and a regional or foreign language are real advantages with tourists and customers. Mention shift flexibility, night shifts or readiness to relocate in your summary if it is true. For bullet ideas, see our guide on writing resume experience.
