Write a fleet manager summary around fleet size and cost

Transport companies, distributors, cab aggregators and corporate fleets all hire fleet managers, but they want different experience. Start your summary with the fleet size, the vehicle type (HCV trucks, LCVs, buses, cabs, tankers), owned versus attached vehicles, the routes or regions and the customer segments you serve.

"Fleet manager with 10 years running 180+ trucks for cement and FMCG transport in central India" is clear and searchable. "Experienced in transport field" is not. If you have handled hazardous goods or temperature-controlled vehicles, mention it early because those roles have extra rules and fewer qualified candidates.

Fleet KPIs: utilisation, mileage and breakdowns

Fleet owners think in cost per km and revenue per vehicle. Show the KPIs you improved, with the method:

  • Fleet utilisation or kilometres per vehicle per month.
  • Fuel efficiency (km per litre) and diesel savings in ₹.
  • Breakdowns on route, downtime and tyre life.
  • Accidents, challans and detentions.

For example, "Improved average mileage by 8% through driver training and telematics fuel alerts, saving about ₹1.6 crore a year." Mention return-load planning, toll and FASTag reconciliation and workshop vendor control if you handle them, as these directly affect margins in Indian trucking. Corporate and staff-transport fleet managers can add on-time pickup rates, women-safety protocols for night shifts and cost per employee trip instead.

Compliance and driver management for Indian fleets

A fleet manager in India must keep permits, fitness certificates, insurance, PUC, road tax and GPS device requirements such as AIS-140 up to date. Recruiters value candidates who run a compliance calendar and use the Vahan and Sarathi portals to verify vehicle and driver records. State your result, such as zero detentions for expired documents.

Driver management is the other half of the job: hiring, licence checks, training, incentives for safe driving and attrition control. Add numbers for drivers managed and any safety programme you ran. Supervisors moving up should highlight budgets, workshop contracts and fleet expansion projects they supported. Keep the resume to one or two pages in a clean, ATS-friendly format.

Format and template for operations resumes

Operations and supply chain hiring in India is driven by numbers: on-time dispatch, inventory accuracy, cost per shipment, fill rate, OTIF and audit scores. Use a clean single-column layout with standard headings (Summary, Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications) so Naukri, LinkedIn and company ATS tools can parse it, and let each experience bullet carry at least one measurable result.

Name the systems you actually use, such as SAP MM, SAP WM or EWM, Oracle, Tally Prime, a WMS or TMS, and Excel with pivot tables. Mention the scale of your work: number of SKUs, warehouse area in sq ft, monthly purchase value, fleet size or containers handled. One page works up to about five years of experience; managers can use two. Skip photo, date of birth and declaration unless the employer asks. Frequently asked questions

Key skills include GPS and telematics tracking, fuel management, preventive maintenance, permit and RTO compliance, driver management and cost-per-km analysis. Knowledge of FASTag reconciliation and transport ERP software is also useful.
A diploma or degree in automobile or mechanical engineering helps with maintenance decisions, but many fleet managers come from logistics or operations backgrounds. Practical experience with vehicles, workshops and drivers matters most.
Mention them only as improvements, such as reducing accidents or challans over a period through training and monitoring. This shows your safety impact without highlighting negative events.
