Show HVAC capacity, systems and building types
HVAC recruiters judge experience by the size and type of systems you have handled. State tonnage (TR) or HP, the system type (chilled water, VRF, packaged, ducted split, clean-room or data-centre cooling) and the building type. "3,600 TR water-cooled chiller plant for a 9 lakh sq ft IT campus" places you instantly.
Make clear whether you are on the design side (heat load, selections, drawings) or the execution side (installation, testing, commissioning), or both. MEP consultants, contractors and equipment manufacturers each hire HVAC engineers, and the wording of your summary should match the side you want to work on. Mention any experience with green-building projects or energy codes such as ECBC.
HVAC engineer achievements that impress
Good HVAC bullets show performance at handover and money saved for the client. Useful numbers include airflow or temperature achieved against design, TR installed, number of AHUs commissioned, value-engineering savings and energy reduction.
- Balanced 140 AHUs and FCUs within ±5% of design airflow.
- Saved ₹1.6 crore through value-engineering of ducting and AHU selection.
- Designed VRF systems up to 450 HP for 25+ commercial buildings.
Avoid "handled HVAC works" or "good knowledge of air conditioning". Name the equipment brands only where it is helpful, and focus instead on what you designed, installed or fixed. If you have resolved comfort complaints after handover, that is a strong example to include.
Software, standards and HVAC freshers
List the software recruiters ask for: Carrier HAP or Trane TRACE for heat load, AutoCAD for layouts, Revit MEP for BIM coordination, and duct-sizing tools such as McQuay Duct Sizer. Mention standards you design to, such as ASHRAE guidelines, ISHRAE references or the National Building Code. ISHRAE membership is a small but positive signal.
Mechanical freshers who want an HVAC career should add any HVAC design course, internship with an MEP contractor and a project on heat load or duct design. Many companies hire freshers as trainee site engineers, so show site readiness: comfort with drawings, measurement and coordination with workers. Basic knowledge of refrigeration cycles, psychrometry and pump selection is often tested in interviews, so revise these before applying.
Format and template for engineering resumes
Plant heads, project managers and HR teams at manufacturing, infrastructure and EPC companies usually shortlist from Naukri, LinkedIn or a referral, often on a phone between shifts or site visits. A clean, single-column layout with clear headings such as Summary, Technical Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications works best, and it also passes applicant tracking systems used by larger groups.
Lead each job with the plant, site or product you handled: "two-wheeler chassis line, 1,200 units a day" or "G+14 residential tower, 2.1 lakh sq ft". Then show results in numbers recruiters understand: OEE, PPM rejection, downtime hours, cost saved, schedule met, safe man-hours. List software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, STAAD.Pro, SAP, Primavera) and standards (IS codes, ISO 9001, IATF 16949) by their exact names. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. A photo and date of birth are optional; leave them out unless the employer asks.
