Name the lab, the analysers and the sections

Diagnostic chains and hospital labs hire lab technicians for specific benches, so make your sections obvious: biochemistry, haematology, clinical pathology, serology, microbiology, histopathology or molecular. Add the type of lab (standalone diagnostic centre, hospital lab, collection centre, reference lab) and whether it is NABL accredited.

List the equipment you have actually run, such as fully automated biochemistry analysers, 5-part haematology counters, immunoassay or ELISA readers, blood gas analysers or coagulation analysers. Use the analyser type or brand you worked on, because lab managers want people who can start a shift without retraining.

Lab technician bullets with volume, TAT and QC

A good lab technician resume shows workload, accuracy and speed. Compare:

  • Weak: Doing blood tests and reports.
  • Strong: Process 450–500 samples a day on automated biochemistry and haematology analysers in an NABL lab.
  • Strong: Helped cut routine report turnaround from 6 hours to under 4 hours by reorganising batching.

Quality control is what separates a trained technician from a helper. Mention daily internal QC, Levey-Jennings charts, Westgard rules, EQAS participation, calibration logs and how you handle a QC failure. If you supported an NABL assessment, say what records you kept.

Critical value reporting is another point lab managers check. A line such as "Called critical potassium and haemoglobin values to wards within 15 minutes and logged every call" shows you understand patient safety, not just machines.

Qualifications, registration and fresher tips

Write your DMLT, BMLT, B.Sc MLT or M.Sc MLT with the institute, board or university and year. Several states run a paramedical council or allied-health register; if yours does, include your registration number. Training in phlebotomy, biomedical waste management and BLS is worth listing.

Freshers should mention their internship lab, the sections covered and the number of samples they handled, along with manual tests they can perform independently, like blood grouping, peripheral smear, ESR, urine microscopy and Gram staining. Avoid claiming every test in the lab; recruiters often check practical skills in a bench test during the interview. Night-shift availability and home-collection experience are also useful to mention for diagnostic chains.

Format and template for healthcare resumes

Hospital HR teams, diagnostic chains and pharma recruiters check eligibility before anything else, so make it easy to find. Put your registration details in the header or a short "Registration and licences" line: council name, registration number and validity, for example State Nursing Council, NMC or State Medical Council, State Pharmacy Council, Dental Council or RCI. Add life-support and safety credentials such as BLS, ACLS, PALS or AERB radiation-safety training with the year they were completed or renewed.

Use a clean one- or two-page layout with standard headings: Summary, Registration, Clinical Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications. Name the department, bed strength or setting (ICU, OPD, casualty, NABL lab, GMP plant) for every job. Leave out patient names and any identifiable case details. A photo is common for hospital roles in India but optional; date of birth and marital status are not needed. For wording help, see how to write resume experience.
