State your physiotherapy specialisation early

Employers hire physiotherapists for a setting: orthopaedic OPD, neuro rehab, cardio-respiratory ICU care, paediatrics, sports teams, women's health or home care. Put your main area in the job title and summary, for example "Physiotherapist (MPT Orthopaedics)" or "Neuro Physiotherapist". If you hold an MPT, write the specialisation; if you have only a BPT, mention the area where you have the most hours.

Registration matters too. Some states, such as Maharashtra, have a physiotherapy council, and allied-health councils are being set up under the NCAHP Act. Add your state registration number where it exists, and your IAP membership if you have one.

Show caseload and patient outcomes

Recruiters know physiotherapists "treat patients". What they want is caseload, conditions and results. Compare:

  • Weak: Gave physiotherapy to orthopaedic patients.
  • Strong: Ran post-operative rehab for 25–30 knee and hip replacement patients a month, from day-1 mobilisation to discharge.
  • Strong: Cut average ACL return-to-sport time from 9 to 7.5 months with a milestone-based protocol.

Mention outcome measures you use (VAS, goniometry ROM, MMT, Oswestry, LEFS, Berg Balance Scale, 6-minute walk test). They show clinical reasoning and give your achievements real numbers.

If you work in a hospital, add inpatient work as well: ICU chest physiotherapy, early mobilisation after surgery, stroke rehab on the ward or discharge planning with the care team. Hospitals often need physiotherapists who can switch between OPD and wards, and bullets that cover both settings make your profile far more flexible.

Courses, techniques and fresher advice for physiotherapists

Techniques like manual therapy, Mulligan, Maitland, dry needling, kinesio taping, cupping or neuro-developmental therapy add value when you list them as completed courses with year and level. Do not list ten weekend workshops; pick the ones you use daily.

BPT freshers should describe their 6-month internship rotations (orthopaedics, neurology, cardio-respiratory, ICU, paediatrics, community), the number of patients they assessed and any camp or research project. If you are applying for home-care roles, mention two-wheeler availability and comfort with elderly and post-stroke patients. A clean one-page resume is enough for the first five years.

Format and template for healthcare resumes

Hospital HR teams, diagnostic chains and pharma recruiters check eligibility before anything else, so make it easy to find. Put your registration details in the header or a short "Registration and licences" line: council name, registration number and validity, for example State Nursing Council, NMC or State Medical Council, State Pharmacy Council, Dental Council or RCI. Add life-support and safety credentials such as BLS, ACLS, PALS or AERB radiation-safety training with the year they were completed or renewed.

Use a clean one- or two-page layout with standard headings: Summary, Registration, Clinical Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications. Name the department, bed strength or setting (ICU, OPD, casualty, NABL lab, GMP plant) for every job. Leave out patient names and any identifiable case details. A photo is common for hospital roles in India but optional; date of birth and marital status are not needed. For wording help, see how to write resume experience.

Frequently asked questions

The use of the "Dr." prefix by physiotherapists has been debated by regulators, so the safest format is your name followed by your degree, such as BPT or MPT, or "(PT)". Follow current council and employer guidance.
No, many hospitals and clinics hire BPT graduates. An MPT helps for specialist, teaching and senior hospital roles and for sports or neuro rehab centres.
Manual therapy, dry needling, sports taping, BLS and specialised neuro or paediatric courses are useful. List only those you completed and use regularly.
