Make your medical registration impossible to miss

For any medical officer role, the first check is whether you hold a permanent registration with a State Medical Council or the National Medical Commission. Add a line near the top: "Permanent Registration, Uttar Pradesh Medical Council, Reg. No. XXXXX (2023)". If you completed MBBS abroad, mention your FMGE or NExT status and the date your permanent registration was granted.

Write MBBS with the college, university and year of completion, and note that it includes the compulsory rotating internship. If you are preparing for NEET PG or have a PG seat starting soon, it is fair to mention availability honestly, since many hospitals hire for fixed periods.

Describe casualty, ward and OPD work clearly

Hospitals hiring an RMO or casualty medical officer want to know what you can handle alone on a night shift. Mention the hospital size, the departments you covered and your patient load:

  • Weak: Worked as duty doctor in a hospital.
  • Strong: Managed 30–35 inpatients across medicine and surgery wards on night duty in a 220-bed hospital.

List procedures you are comfortable doing, such as suturing, ABG sampling, catheterisation, intubation assistance or ECG interpretation. Mention medico-legal work (MLC registration, injury reports, death certificates) because private hospitals value doctors who handle it correctly.

Extra credentials for an MBBS doctor resume

ACLS and BLS are the most useful add-ons for emergency and ICU-facing roles; ATLS or PALS help for trauma or paediatric settings. Write the year and renewal date. Short certificate courses in diabetes, critical care or emergency medicine can be listed, but keep them below your clinical experience.

Freshers just after internship should list internship postings with departments and durations, plus any rural posting, health camp or research paper. Keep the resume to one or two pages, and leave out NEET ranks unless the employer asks for them.

Experienced medical officers moving into corporate hospitals, occupational health, insurance medical review or clinical research should add a short line on the transferable side of their work: protocols followed, quality audits, discharge-summary turnaround or teaching of interns and nurses. That helps non-clinical recruiters understand your value.

Format and template for healthcare resumes

Hospital HR teams, diagnostic chains and pharma recruiters check eligibility before anything else, so make it easy to find. Put your registration details in the header or a short "Registration and licences" line: council name, registration number and validity, for example State Nursing Council, NMC or State Medical Council, State Pharmacy Council, Dental Council or RCI. Add life-support and safety credentials such as BLS, ACLS, PALS or AERB radiation-safety training with the year they were completed or renewed.

Use a clean one- or two-page layout with standard headings: Summary, Registration, Clinical Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications. Name the department, bed strength or setting (ICU, OPD, casualty, NABL lab, GMP plant) for every job. Leave out patient names and any identifiable case details. A photo is common for hospital roles in India but optional; date of birth and marital status are not needed. For wording help, see how to write resume experience.

Frequently asked questions

Most hospitals require permanent registration with a State Medical Council or NMC, which you get after the internship. Apply once it is granted, or mention the expected date clearly.
You do not have to, but mentioning planned availability is fair when a hospital asks about tenure. Focus the resume on clinical work, procedures and registration.
A clean one- or two-page format with Registration, Clinical Experience, Procedures and Skills, Education and Certifications works well for hospital HR and medical directors.
