Write product manager bullets around outcomes

The most common mistake on product manager resumes is describing activities: "Wrote PRDs", "Conducted stand-ups", "Coordinated with engineering". Hiring panels at Indian startups and product companies want outcomes. Each bullet should connect a decision you drove to a metric that moved.

  • Weak: Managed UPI onboarding feature.
  • Strong: Redesigned UPI onboarding after 40 user interviews, raising first-transaction activation from 41% to 58%.
  • Weak: Responsible for A/B testing.
  • Strong: Ran 25+ pricing and in-app tests that improved trial-to-paid conversion by 3.4 percentage points.

Use metrics that fit your product: activation, retention, conversion, revenue, NPS, time to complete a task or support tickets reduced.

Show product scope, domain and team size

Product roles vary hugely, so give the reader context. For each job, state the product area you owned, the user base (for example 1.2 crore registered users or 9,000 small businesses), whether it was B2C or B2B, and the size of the team you worked with. This helps recruiters match you to the right level, from associate PM to group PM.

Domain knowledge is a strong selling point in India. Fintech PMs should mention UPI, lending, KYC or RBI compliance work; SaaS PMs should mention pricing, onboarding or integrations; e-commerce PMs should mention catalogue, checkout or logistics. Use the summary to combine years of PM experience, domain and one headline achievement.

Moving into product management from engineering or MBA

Many product managers in India come from engineering, consulting, business analysis or an MBA. If you are transitioning, show product work you have already done: writing user stories, running customer interviews, analysing funnels with SQL or Mixpanel, or owning a small feature end to end. Label your first PM-like role honestly, such as "Product Analyst" or "Engineer, product ownership for inventory module".

Freshers and MBA graduates should add case studies or side projects: a teardown of an Indian app with suggested improvements, a small product launched on a no-code tool, or a PRD for a real problem. A CSPO or similar certificate is a minor plus; strong thinking matters far more. Keep the resume to one or two pages and avoid buzzwords like "visionary" without evidence. For layout ideas, see our how to make a resume guide.

Format and template for IT resumes

Most IT applications in India go through Naukri, LinkedIn, company career portals or a vendor's applicant tracking system before a human reads them. Use a clean, single-column or light two-column layout with standard headings such as Summary, Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications, so the parser can read every section.

Keep the resume to one page if you have under four years of experience and two pages after that. Put your tech stack near the top, but group it (Languages, Frameworks, Databases, Cloud and Tools) instead of listing thirty logos. Add your GitHub, portfolio or LinkedIn link only if it is up to date. Leave out photo, date of birth, marital status and a declaration unless an employer specifically asks for them. Read our ATS-friendly resume guide before you upload to a job portal.

Yes, briefly. SQL, analytics tools, API basics and design tools show you can work closely with engineering and design, which most Indian product companies expect.
One page works for up to about five years of experience. Senior PMs can use two pages if every bullet shows scope, decisions and results.
