Be precise about your psychologist title and RCI status

In India, the title "Clinical Psychologist" is regulated: it requires an RCI-recognised qualification such as an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology (or the newer RCI-approved programmes) and registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India. If you have it, put "RCI Registered" and your CRR number on the resume. If you hold an M.A. or M.Sc in Psychology without RCI registration, use accurate titles such as Counselling Psychologist, Psychologist or Counsellor.

Hospitals, NGOs and mental-health platforms check this carefully, and an inaccurate title can end your application. Being precise also tells employers which tasks you can legally take on, such as formal diagnosis-related assessments.

Describing therapy work and outcomes ethically

Show your caseload, client groups and approaches without revealing anything identifiable about clients:

  • Weak: Gave counselling to many patients.
  • Strong: Provide CBT and ACT-based therapy to 22–26 adult and adolescent clients a week for anxiety, depression and OCD.
  • Strong: 65% of anxiety and depression clients showed a 40%+ drop in PHQ-9 or GAD-7 scores after 10 sessions.

Name the assessments you are trained in, such as intelligence, personality, projective and neuropsychological tests, plus standard rating scales. Mention supervision, case conferences and multidisciplinary work with psychiatrists, social workers and occupational therapists. Experience with helplines such as Tele-MANAS or crisis services is also worth noting, along with how you handle risk assessment and referrals.

Settings, specialisations and freshers in psychology

Adapt the resume to the setting. Hospitals want assessment and therapy in psychiatric populations; schools want child assessment, learning-disability screening and parent counselling; corporate wellness and online platforms want short-term counselling, risk protocols and comfort with video sessions; NGOs value community and trauma work.

Freshers with an M.A. or M.Sc should list their internships with hours, supervisor type, client groups and tools used, and any dissertation. Add workshop-based training in CBT, play therapy or trauma-informed care with the hours completed. Mention languages you counsel in, since therapy in the client's own language is a real advantage. Keep the tone factual and avoid listing every therapy you have only read about.

Format and template for healthcare resumes

Hospital HR teams, diagnostic chains and pharma recruiters check eligibility before anything else, so make it easy to find. Put your registration details in the header or a short "Registration and licences" line: council name, registration number and validity, for example State Nursing Council, NMC or State Medical Council, State Pharmacy Council, Dental Council or RCI. Add life-support and safety credentials such as BLS, ACLS, PALS or AERB radiation-safety training with the year they were completed or renewed.

Use a clean one- or two-page layout with standard headings: Summary, Registration, Clinical Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications. Name the department, bed strength or setting (ICU, OPD, casualty, NABL lab, GMP plant) for every job. Leave out patient names and any identifiable case details. A photo is common for hospital roles in India but optional; date of birth and marital status are not needed. For wording help, see how to write resume experience.
