Lead with your client book and AUM

Bank hiring managers judge a relationship manager by the book they can handle and grow. Put three numbers in your summary: number of clients or families, total relationship value or AUM, and the segment (retail, priority, HNI, business banking or NRI). "Relationship manager with 210 priority families and ₹185 crore AUM" instantly tells a recruiter which grade you fit.

If your bank calls the role something else, such as Wealth Manager or Personal Banker, keep the official title but add the segment in brackets so ATS searches still match.

Mention your city and the local business community you know well. Banks hire relationship managers partly for the network they bring, so a line about serving exporters, doctors, traders or NRI families in your region can be more persuasive than generic claims about communication skills.

Show sales results without breaking compliance

Banking RM bullets should combine targets with conduct. Write target achievement as a percentage, name the product lines and add one line on compliance, because mis-selling is a serious concern for every bank.

  • Weak: "Sold mutual funds and insurance to customers."
  • Strong: "Achieved 118% of the third-party product target through SIPs, term and health insurance, with zero mis-selling complaints."
  • Strong: "Added 46 new-to-bank current accounts from exporter clusters through referrals."

Mention CASA growth, new-to-bank acquisition, retention or reduced attrition. Avoid sharing confidential client names or exact individual balances.

Licences every banking relationship manager should list

Most banks require NISM Series V-A for mutual fund distribution and an IRDAI certification for selling insurance. List them with the month and year, and renew them before they lapse; an expired NISM certificate can delay your joining. NISM Series X-A or XXI-A and IIBF certifications can help when you move to wealth or investment advisory teams.

Freshers applying for Assistant Relationship Manager or Personal Banker roles should highlight internships at bank branches, customer-facing part-time jobs and local language skills, which matter in branch banking. Keep the resume to one page and use the experience writing guide to turn targets into results.

Format and template for finance and banking resumes

Finance recruiters, bank HR teams and CA firm partners expect a conservative, easy-to-audit resume. Use a single-column or restrained two-column layout with standard headings: Summary, Key Skills, Experience, Education, Professional Qualifications and Certifications. Avoid heavy colour, graphics and skill bars, because many banks and NBFCs screen applications through an applicant tracking system first.

Put professional qualifications (CA, CMA, CS, CFA, NISM, IRDAI, IIBF) near the top with the level cleared and the year, and add your membership number only if the role requires it. Write numbers the Indian way, in lakh and crore, and attach a scale to every bullet: portfolio size, number of ledgers, loan files, audit observations or closing days. Keep it to one page for under five years of experience and two pages for managers. Leave out photo, date of birth and a declaration unless the employer asks. Before uploading to Naukri or a bank portal, check the ATS-friendly resume guide.
