What a service engineer resume must show

Service managers hire people who can fix equipment at a customer site, keep the customer happy and come back with business. Show all three. Name the equipment you service (compressors, CNC machines, DG sets, elevators, medical equipment, HVAC units, printing machines), its size or range, and the industries of your customers.

State your territory and travel readiness clearly, for example "covering western Tamil Nadu and Kerala, comfortable with 15 to 20 travel days a month". Many field service jobs are filtered on willingness to travel and a two-wheeler licence, so mention both if they apply to you.

Service engineer numbers: calls, closure and AMCs

Service teams track calls attended, response and closure time, repeat complaints, customer feedback and AMC or spares revenue. Use the same measures in your bullets.

Weak resumes say "handling customer complaints" or "providing after-sales service". These describe every service job. Even with one year of experience, numbers such as calls per month or installations done show that you have handled real responsibility on your own.

Diploma, licences and moving up in service

Many strong service engineers start with a diploma or ITI and complete a degree later through lateral entry. List both qualifications clearly with years, and highlight factory training from the manufacturer you work for. Mention a driving licence, an electrical wireman or supervisor licence, or brand-specific product training where relevant.

To move up to senior service engineer, service in-charge or key account roles, show that you can train customers, prepare reports, support spare-parts and AMC sales and guide junior technicians. Freshers should include final-year projects and internships that involved real equipment. Write in simple, clear English and include regional languages you speak, since customer communication is part of every visit. Keep the resume to one page, and put your territory, licence and travel readiness where a service manager will see them in the first few seconds of reading.

Format and template for engineering resumes

Plant heads, project managers and HR teams at manufacturing, infrastructure and EPC companies usually shortlist from Naukri, LinkedIn or a referral, often on a phone between shifts or site visits. A clean, single-column layout with clear headings such as Summary, Technical Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications works best, and it also passes applicant tracking systems used by larger groups.

Lead each job with the plant, site or product you handled: "two-wheeler chassis line, 1,200 units a day" or "G+14 residential tower, 2.1 lakh sq ft". Then show results in numbers recruiters understand: OEE, PPM rejection, downtime hours, cost saved, schedule met, safe man-hours. List software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, STAAD.Pro, SAP, Primavera) and standards (IS codes, ISO 9001, IATF 16949) by their exact names. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. A photo and date of birth are optional; leave them out unless the employer asks.
