A student resume is not the same as a fresher resume. Freshers usually apply for their first full-time job after graduation. Students are often applying while still studying, for internships, part-time roles, campus clubs, competitions, scholarships, exchange programmes or volunteering.
The template should therefore be compact and flexible. Internship Focused is the best starting point when you need objective, projects, experience, education and skills on one page. Fresher Simple works when education and projects are your strongest sections. Simple ATS is safer for formal internship portals and company career sites. Minimal Clean ATS gives a cleaner look for broad applications without becoming too decorative.
Use Portfolio when you have visible work: coding projects, design samples, writing clips, campaign work, dashboards or case studies. It helps when the proof matters more than the number of internships. Keep links short and make sure the linked work is ready for review.
For internships, choose Internship Focused if you have one or two short experiences, college projects and skills to show together. Put availability, degree and expected graduation year clearly near the top if the employer needs it.
For part-time roles, campus ambassador roles or volunteering, Fresher Simple can be easier to read. Use bullets that show responsibility: event coordination, social media posting, tutoring, fundraising, research assistance or customer handling. For scholarships and academic programmes, Simple ATS or Minimal Clean ATS keeps the focus on education, achievements and activities.
For project-led applications, Portfolio is stronger. A design student can show campaign or branding work; an engineering student can show apps and final-year builds; a commerce student can show analysis projects or Excel dashboards. If you need content help, read the student resume builder guide and the resume skills guide.
A student resume should usually be one page. Prioritise recent education, relevant coursework, projects, internships, certifications, positions of responsibility and achievements. You do not need a long personal profile; two clear lines are enough.
A weak project bullet says, “Did marketing for college fest.” A stronger version says, “Promoted college fest on Instagram and WhatsApp groups; created 12 posts and helped increase registrations from 180 to 260.” Small numbers are fine when they are honest.
MakePerfectResume lets you reorder, rename or hide sections, so you can move Projects above Experience or remove a section that is not useful yet. You can use the Internship Focused template, preview it, and switch to Simple ATS or Portfolio without retyping.
Do not fill space with generic strengths such as hardworking, punctual and quick learner. Show proof through club work, class projects, competitions, certifications or volunteering. Do not add unnecessary personal details such as father's name, marital status or a declaration unless a college format specifically requires them.
Also avoid copying a full-time fresher resume too early. If you are applying for internships, the employer wants to know what you are studying, when you are available and what you have already tried. The BTech fresher resume example and digital marketing resume example can give ideas, but adapt them to student-level experience.
