Name the AC systems and refrigerants you handle

"AC repair" covers very different jobs, from home split units to VRF systems and chillers in hotels. Recruiters at HVAC contractors and service companies look for the exact systems you have worked on, so list them: window, split, cassette, ductable, VRF, package units, AHUs or chillers. Mention inverter models separately, because inverter PCB diagnosis is a skill many technicians lack.

Write the refrigerants you are comfortable with, such as R32, R410A and R22, and the procedures you follow: brazing, flaring, nitrogen pressure testing, vacuuming and charging by weight. This tells the interviewer you do the job properly instead of topping up gas, which is a common complaint in the trade.

Service-centre numbers that strengthen an AC technician resume

Service centres measure technicians on calls per day, first-visit fix rate, customer rating and AMC sales. Use those numbers in your bullets.

  • Weak: "Attended customer complaints for AC."
  • Strong: "Handled 6 to 8 home calls a day with a first-visit fix rate of 88%."
  • Strong: "Commissioned 14 VRF projects with zero leak call-backs in year one."

If you moved from home servicing to project work, show both clearly; the mix makes you useful for contractors that do installation and AMC. Add the number of indoor units or clients you cover under AMC to show the scale of your work.

Training and Gulf openings for AC technicians

Put your ITI trade, such as Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Technician (NCVT), at the top of Education. If you attended good servicing practices training on refrigerant handling or a manufacturer's VRF course, list it under Certifications with the year. Electrical wiring knowledge for AC units is worth a skill line of its own.

Gulf countries have steady demand for HVAC technicians in buildings and facility management, and Saudi-bound applicants may need to clear the Skill Verification Program. Add passport details only when an agency asks. Freshers can list ITI practical work and a few months at a service centre; experienced technicians should keep the page focused on systems, numbers and safety.

Format and template for technician resumes

Technician and trade hiring in India is usually handled by plant HR teams, contractors, manpower consultants and Gulf recruitment agencies who look at hundreds of resumes for one opening. A simple one-page layout with clear headings works best: Summary, Trade and Licences, Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications. Put your ITI trade (NCVT or SCVT), diploma, apprenticeship and any licence near the top, with the licence class and validity, because many employers shortlist on these details alone.

Name the machines, tools, vehicles or equipment you have handled, and list safety training such as first aid, fire safety, working at height or lockout-tagout. Add passport number, expiry date and ECR/ECNR status only when you apply for Gulf or overseas jobs and the agency asks for it; leave it off resumes for Indian employers. Skip the photo unless it is requested. For the basic structure, see how to make a resume.

Frequently asked questions

The ITI trade Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Technician is the most relevant. ITI Electrician or Electronics Mechanic holders can also move into AC work if they show installation and servicing experience.
You can mention the types of systems and, if relevant, that you worked at an authorised service centre or did manufacturer training. Focus on systems and skills rather than a long list of brands.
Be honest and write what you did, for example "assisted in copper piping, brazing and vacuuming for 5 VRF projects". Interviewers usually ask practical questions, so overstating your role can backfire.
