Put your welding positions and processes at the top

Welding recruiters read the job title line before anything else, so make it precise: "6G Pipe Welder (TIG + ARC)" or "3G Structural Welder (SMAW)". Then list the processes you are qualified in (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW), the materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, aluminium) and the pipe sizes or plate thickness you usually weld.

Positions matter because they decide pay. A 6G qualification covers difficult pipe positions and is in high demand for refinery, power and oil and gas jobs, while 3G and 4G plate qualifications suit structural fabrication. Mention the code the test was done to, such as ASME Section IX or AWS D1.1, and when the qualification was issued.

Use repair rate and joint count in a welder resume

Quality supervisors judge welders by radiography or ultrasonic results. A low repair rate is the single most convincing line you can write.

  • Weak: "Did pipe welding at refinery site."
  • Strong: "Completed 1,800+ butt joints with a radiography repair rate of 1.4%."
  • Strong: "Finished 140 tie-in joints during a 21-day shutdown on schedule."

Also mention that you can read isometric drawings and follow a WPS, and that you handle electrode baking, preheat and interpass checks. These details show you understand quality, not just the arc. Add hot work, confined space or working-at-height training, since site safety teams ask for it before giving you a permit.

Welder resumes for Gulf and overseas projects

Gulf contractors usually test welders again before hiring, so your resume mainly needs to get you invited. Write your last qualification test, the code, position and process, and keep copies of the test certificate ready. Saudi-bound welders may also need the Skill Verification Program. Mention earlier projects by type, for example "refinery shutdown" or "power plant boiler piping", rather than listing every client.

Share passport details only when the agency asks. Freshers with an ITI Welder certificate should mention practice positions, any 2G or 3G test passed and the hours of practical training. Keep the page to one side of A4 and avoid long objectives; the qualification and repair rate say more than any sentence.

Format and template for technician resumes

Technician and trade hiring in India is usually handled by plant HR teams, contractors, manpower consultants and Gulf recruitment agencies who look at hundreds of resumes for one opening. A simple one-page layout with clear headings works best: Summary, Trade and Licences, Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications. Put your ITI trade (NCVT or SCVT), diploma, apprenticeship and any licence near the top, with the licence class and validity, because many employers shortlist on these details alone.

Name the machines, tools, vehicles or equipment you have handled, and list safety training such as first aid, fire safety, working at height or lockout-tagout. Add passport number, expiry date and ECR/ECNR status only when you apply for Gulf or overseas jobs and the agency asks for it; leave it off resumes for Indian employers. Skip the photo unless it is requested. For the basic structure, see how to make a resume.

Frequently asked questions

3G is a vertical plate weld usually used for structural work, while 6G is a pipe weld on a fixed pipe inclined at 45 degrees that covers most positions. Write the exact qualification you hold, with process and code.
Most Gulf employers run their own welding test, but an ITI Welder certificate and a valid 6G or 3G qualification help you get shortlisted. Saudi-bound welders may also need to pass the Skill Verification Program.
Yes, if you know them. A radiography or ultrasonic repair rate is one of the strongest proofs of welding quality and is easy for supervisors to verify.
