Show your CA qualification the way recruiters search for it

Recruiters filter chartered accountant profiles on three facts: the year you qualified, whether you cleared in the first attempt, and your post-qualification experience. Put all three in the summary and in a clear Education line such as "CA Final, ICAI, 2021 (first attempt)". If you have an ICAI membership number, keep it ready for the application form but do not crowd the header with it.

Count articleship separately. Many firms will ask "how many years post-qualification?", so write "5 years post-qualification plus 3 years of articleship" instead of merging everything into one number.

Add any post-qualification courses from ICAI, such as the GST, forensic accounting or Ind AS certificate courses, in a separate Certifications section. They show that you keep learning after the final exam and help when a job post lists them as preferred.

Audit and reporting bullets that prove ownership

Weak CA resumes list duties: "handled audit", "did GST work". Strong ones show scale, standards and outcome.

  • Weak: "Responsible for finalisation of accounts."
  • Strong: "Prepared Ind AS financial statements for a ₹420 crore manufacturer and closed the statutory audit with no qualifications."

Mention the size of clients or the company (turnover in crore), the number of entities or plants, the standards you worked with (Ind AS, AS, CARO, Form 3CD) and the systems (SAP FICO, Oracle, Tally Prime). If you moved from a CA firm to industry, show both sides: audit judgement from practice and closing or MIS ownership from industry.

Tailoring a chartered accountant resume for practice, industry or Big 4

For a CA firm or Big 4 audit role, lead with sectors audited, team size supervised and audit tools. For an industry finance role, lead with month-end close, budgeting, GST and TDS compliance and ERP experience. For a transaction or advisory role, highlight valuation, due diligence and financial modelling work, even if it came from articleship.

Freshly qualified CAs should list articleship achievements in the experience section with a clear firm name and dates, and add rank or exemption details only if they are genuinely strong. Our experience writing guide shows how to turn audit tasks into results.

Format and template for finance and banking resumes

Finance recruiters, bank HR teams and CA firm partners expect a conservative, easy-to-audit resume. Use a single-column or restrained two-column layout with standard headings: Summary, Key Skills, Experience, Education, Professional Qualifications and Certifications. Avoid heavy colour, graphics and skill bars, because many banks and NBFCs screen applications through an applicant tracking system first.

Put professional qualifications (CA, CMA, CS, CFA, NISM, IRDAI, IIBF) near the top with the level cleared and the year, and add your membership number only if the role requires it. Write numbers the Indian way, in lakh and crore, and attach a scale to every bullet: portfolio size, number of ledgers, loan files, audit observations or closing days. Keep it to one page for under five years of experience and two pages for managers. Leave out photo, date of birth and a declaration unless the employer asks. Before uploading to Naukri or a bank portal, check the ATS-friendly resume guide.

Frequently asked questions

Mention "first attempt" or an all-India rank if it applies, because recruiters value it. If you cleared in more attempts, simply write the year of qualification; you do not need to list attempts.
Most employers treat articleship as training rather than post-qualification experience. List it on your resume with clear dates, but state your post-qualification years separately in the summary.
It is optional. Some employers verify membership during onboarding, so keep the number ready, but you can leave it out of the resume header unless the job post asks for it.
