Pick a primary cloud and say it clearly

Most cloud engineer openings in India are tied to one platform, usually AWS or Azure, with GCP at some product companies. Recruiters search for those exact names, so state your primary cloud in the job title or summary: "Cloud Engineer (Azure)" or "AWS Cloud Engineer". If you know a second cloud, mention it as secondary rather than claiming equal depth in all three.

List the specific services you have worked with. "Azure" alone says little; "Azure VNets, VPN gateway, AKS, Azure Monitor and Azure Backup" tells the interviewer where to focus. Certifications carry real weight in cloud hiring because partners of Microsoft, AWS and Google need certified staff, so place AZ-104, AWS Solutions Architect Associate or similar high on the page.

Cloud migration and cost bullets that convince

Migrations, governance and cost control are the work most companies hire cloud engineers for. Quantify each one.

  • Weak: Did migration of servers to Azure.
  • Strong: Migrated 150+ on-premise servers to Azure with Azure Migrate and no unplanned downtime.
  • Weak: Worked on cost optimisation.
  • Strong: Cut monthly Azure spend by about 22% with reserved instances and auto-shutdown schedules.

Other useful numbers are the subscriptions or accounts you manage, policy compliance improvement, backup success rates and ticket volume handled within SLA. If you work at a managed service provider, name client industries rather than clients.

Moving from a support role to cloud engineer

Many cloud engineers in India start in server support, network operations or helpdesk roles. If that is your path, highlight anything in your current job that touches the cloud: Microsoft 365 or Entra ID administration, backups to cloud storage, scripting with PowerShell or Bash, or a migration you assisted with.

Back this with hands-on projects. Build a small environment with Terraform, such as a virtual network with a web app, a database and monitoring, and describe it in a project section with the services used. Freshers should treat a fundamentals certificate (AZ-900 or AWS Cloud Practitioner) as a starting point and aim for an associate-level exam before applying widely. Our ATS-friendly resume guide explains how to keep certification names readable for job portals.

Format and template for IT resumes

Most IT applications in India go through Naukri, LinkedIn, company career portals or a vendor's applicant tracking system before a human reads them. Use a clean, single-column or light two-column layout with standard headings such as Summary, Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications, so the parser can read every section.

Keep the resume to one page if you have under four years of experience and two pages after that. Put your tech stack near the top, but group it (Languages, Frameworks, Databases, Cloud and Tools) instead of listing thirty logos. Add your GitHub, portfolio or LinkedIn link only if it is up to date. Leave out photo, date of birth, marital status and a declaration unless an employer specifically asks for them. Read our ATS-friendly resume guide before you upload to a job portal.

Frequently asked questions

Both are well recognised. Choose based on the platform your target companies use; IT services firms with Microsoft clients often prefer AZ-104, while many startups lean towards AWS.
A cloud engineer focuses on designing and running cloud infrastructure, networking, security and costs. A DevOps engineer focuses more on CI/CD pipelines, release automation and developer workflows, though the roles overlap.
