Put CCNA, CCNP and vendor skills where recruiters see them

Network engineer hiring in India is heavily certification-driven. Recruiters at system integrators, ISPs and managed service providers often filter by CCNA, CCNP, Fortinet NSE or Palo Alto certifications before reading anything else. Mention your highest certification in the first line of your summary and list all current ones, with month and year, in a dedicated section.

Name the vendors and platforms you have actually configured: Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Fortinet, Palo Alto or Check Point. Many job descriptions are written for a specific vendor stack, and "worked on firewalls" will not match a search for "Palo Alto". Also state your support level (L1, L2 or L3), because it tells recruiters straight away which roles fit you.

Network engineer achievements beyond ticket counts

Ticket numbers show workload but not skill. Balance them with bullets about uptime, migrations, security improvements and cost.

  • Weak: Handled network issues and tickets.
  • Strong: Maintained 99.95% uptime across 40 sites and led L3 troubleshooting for OSPF and BGP issues.
  • Weak: Worked on SD-WAN implementation.
  • Strong: Migrated 28 branches from MPLS to SD-WAN, cutting WAN costs by about 35%.

Other strong points are rollouts completed (sites, switches or access points), firewall rules cleaned up, audit findings closed and mean time to resolve for critical incidents. If you work on projects for clients, describe the industry and scale, such as "multi-campus hospital network with 1,200 endpoints".

Fresher and NOC-level network resume advice

Freshers and diploma holders usually enter networking through NOC or desktop-support roles. If that is you, highlight lab work done for your CCNA preparation, such as configuring VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, OSPF and ACLs in Cisco Packet Tracer or GNS3, and describe it as a project with the topology you built.

Experienced engineers moving towards network security or cloud networking should add relevant skills honestly: firewall policy design, zero-trust access, or Azure and AWS virtual networking. Keep the resume clean and text-based, with no network diagrams or icons, because many enterprise recruiters use ATS filters. A simple corporate layout such as our professional templates suits this role well.

Format and template for IT resumes

Most IT applications in India go through Naukri, LinkedIn, company career portals or a vendor's applicant tracking system before a human reads them. Use a clean, single-column or light two-column layout with standard headings such as Summary, Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications, so the parser can read every section.

Keep the resume to one page if you have under four years of experience and two pages after that. Put your tech stack near the top, but group it (Languages, Frameworks, Databases, Cloud and Tools) instead of listing thirty logos. Add your GitHub, portfolio or LinkedIn link only if it is up to date. Leave out photo, date of birth, marital status and a declaration unless an employer specifically asks for them. Read our ATS-friendly resume guide before you upload to a job portal.

Frequently asked questions

CCNA is often enough for L1 NOC and junior network engineer roles, especially with lab practice. For L2 and L3 roles, employers usually expect hands-on experience and often CCNP or a firewall vendor certification.
Yes. Indian employers commonly hire by support level, so stating it in your job titles or bullets helps recruiters match you to the right openings.
It is increasingly useful. Basic Python or Ansible for configuration backups and bulk changes can set you apart, especially for roles in larger enterprises and service providers.
