Show the size of the environment you run

For system administrator roles, recruiters and IT managers first want to understand the environment you manage. Give them the numbers: how many servers, which operating systems and versions, physical or virtual, how many users, and how many sites or data centres. "Manage 220 RHEL and Windows servers on VMware for 9 hospitals" immediately places you at a mid-to-senior level.

Be clear about whether you are Linux-focused, Windows-focused or mixed, because many Indian job postings specify one. Mention the virtualisation platform (VMware, Hyper-V or Proxmox) and whether you also handle storage, backups or Microsoft 365. Sysadmin roles vary widely between companies, so this context prevents mismatched interviews.

Routine tasks such as "creating users" or "installing software" do not make strong bullets on their own. Focus on outcomes that matter to the business: uptime, patch compliance, recovery time, audit findings closed and time saved through automation.

Most IT applications in India go through Naukri, LinkedIn, company career portals or a vendor's applicant tracking system before a human reads them. Use a clean, single-column or light two-column layout with standard headings such as Summary, Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications, so the parser can read every section.
