Show the voltage levels and equipment you handle

An electrical engineer resume is judged on the scale of the system you are trusted with. State voltage levels (LT, 11 kV, 33 kV, 66 kV), connected load in MW, the number of transformers, DG sets and panels, and the type of plant. "Maintenance of 66/11 kV substation and 12 MW load" is far stronger than "handling electrical maintenance".

Also say whether your work is operation and maintenance, projects and commissioning, or design. Plant maintenance, EPC execution and consultancy design teams hire very differently, and a clear label helps the recruiter route your profile correctly. If you have handled statutory work such as CEIG inspections, DISCOM liaison or annual earthing and relay testing, mention it, because many employers struggle to find engineers who can manage these approvals without supervision.

Electrical achievements in rupees and hours

Management cares about uptime, power cost and safety, so frame your bullets around them. Strong numbers include breakdown hours reduced, MTTR and MTBF, power factor improved, units or rupees saved per year and incidents prevented.

  • Improved power factor from 0.91 to 0.99 and saved ₹68 lakh a year with VFDs.
  • Reduced breakdown hours by 37% with thermography-based maintenance.
  • Commissioned a 2 MW rooftop solar plant with CEIG and DISCOM approvals.

Avoid lines like "good knowledge of electrical systems". Instead, mention the specific equipment brands or PLC families you have worked on, such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley or ABB drives, because interviewers often ask about them.

Licences and certifications for electrical roles

Many plants and contractors need a licensed person on record, so mention your state electrical supervisor licence or competency certificate and its validity. The BEE Certified Energy Auditor or Energy Manager qualification is valued in process industries, and training in electrical safety or NFPA 70E shows you take risk seriously.

Freshers should add in-plant training at a substation or power utility, final-year projects in solar, drives or protection, and software such as AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP or MATLAB. Keep each project to two or three lines that explain what you built and what you measured, and mention any wiring, panel or testing work you did with your own hands.

Format and template for engineering resumes

Plant heads, project managers and HR teams at manufacturing, infrastructure and EPC companies usually shortlist from Naukri, LinkedIn or a referral, often on a phone between shifts or site visits. A clean, single-column layout with clear headings such as Summary, Technical Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications works best, and it also passes applicant tracking systems used by larger groups.

Lead each job with the plant, site or product you handled: "two-wheeler chassis line, 1,200 units a day" or "G+14 residential tower, 2.1 lakh sq ft". Then show results in numbers recruiters understand: OEE, PPM rejection, downtime hours, cost saved, schedule met, safe man-hours. List software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, STAAD.Pro, SAP, Primavera) and standards (IS codes, ISO 9001, IATF 16949) by their exact names. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. A photo and date of birth are optional; leave them out unless the employer asks.
