Show the scope a finance manager owns

At manager level, recruiters and promoters want to know how much of the finance function you run. State company turnover, number of entities, plants or branches, team size and the areas you own (accounts, tax, treasury, MIS, audits). "Finance manager for a ₹750 crore logistics company, leading a team of 8" sets your level immediately.

Name your reporting line, such as CFO, managing director or promoter family, because finance managers in Indian mid-size companies often act as the de facto finance head and that experience prepares you for controller or CFO roles.

If you have presented to the board, a lender consortium or private equity investors, add it to the summary. These interactions are often what separates a strong finance manager from a senior accountant.

Finance manager achievements in cash, cost and closing speed

Your strongest bullets show money freed up, saved or raised.

  • Weak: "Handled banking and working capital."
  • Strong: "Raised ₹60 crore of term and working capital limits at 85 bps lower cost."
  • Strong: "Reduced debtor days from 78 to 52 through credit limits and weekly collection reviews."

Also show process improvements: faster month-end close, ERP rollouts, automated MIS and fewer audit observations. Keep each bullet focused on one result with a number, and avoid repeating routine tasks your team handles.

Qualifications and format for senior finance resumes

CA, CMA, CS or an MBA in finance is expected for most finance manager roles. List the qualification with the year, and add relevant certificate courses such as Ind AS or GST. Mention ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Tally Prime) and reporting tools.

Use two pages at most, and keep older roles short. If you are moving from audit or a CA firm into industry, show ownership of real decisions, not only review work. If you have managed a finance team, mention hiring, training and how you divided responsibilities, because promoters want a manager who can build a dependable team. Leave out personal details like marital status and a declaration. See our accountant resume example if you are applying for a role that sits between accountant and manager.

Format and template for finance and banking resumes

Finance recruiters, bank HR teams and CA firm partners expect a conservative, easy-to-audit resume. Use a single-column or restrained two-column layout with standard headings: Summary, Key Skills, Experience, Education, Professional Qualifications and Certifications. Avoid heavy colour, graphics and skill bars, because many banks and NBFCs screen applications through an applicant tracking system first.

Put professional qualifications (CA, CMA, CS, CFA, NISM, IRDAI, IIBF) near the top with the level cleared and the year, and add your membership number only if the role requires it. Write numbers the Indian way, in lakh and crore, and attach a scale to every bullet: portfolio size, number of ledgers, loan files, audit observations or closing days. Keep it to one page for under five years of experience and two pages for managers. Leave out photo, date of birth and a declaration unless the employer asks. Before uploading to Naukri or a bank portal, check the ATS-friendly resume guide.
