Show your ICSI membership and listed company exposure

Employers hiring a company secretary first check whether you are an ICSI member (ACS or FCS) and whether you have handled a listed company. Put your membership status and year in the summary, and keep your membership number ready, because listed companies must disclose the CS appointment.

State the type of entities you have supported: listed, unlisted public, private, NBFC, LLP or foreign subsidiary. Listed company experience with SEBI LODR, insider trading regulations and stock exchange filings is a major differentiator, so make it obvious.

If you have worked with a practising company secretary firm, mention the number and type of clients, since this shows breadth across many compliance situations in a short time.

Company secretary achievements beyond routine filings

Filing forms on time is the baseline. Show the volume you manage and the special transactions you handled.

  • Weak: "Handling ROC compliances."
  • Strong: "Filed 500+ ROC forms on MCA21 for 40 companies with no late fees."
  • Strong: "Coordinated a ₹85 crore preferential allotment from board approval to listing."

Mention rights issues, buybacks, mergers, ESOP schemes, FEMA filings, or changes in capital structure if you worked on them. Also show governance work: drafting board minutes under the secretarial standards, managing committee calendars and maintaining the structured digital database.

Trainees, freshers and career progression for CS professionals

CS Executive and Professional students should list their practical training with the firm or company name, dates and main tasks, such as incorporations, annual filings and board minutes. Mention the modules or groups cleared with the year.

An LL.B. or a law background strengthens your profile for legal-cum-secretarial roles. Experienced professionals moving towards head of secretarial or group compliance roles should add team leadership and interaction with independent directors and regulators. Keep regulatory references current and accurate, because interviewers often test recent SEBI and MCA amendments. A one-page resume works for trainees and early-career members; two pages are fine once you have handled listed companies or several group entities. The experience writing guide shows how to turn compliance tasks into results.

Format and template for finance and banking resumes

Finance recruiters, bank HR teams and CA firm partners expect a conservative, easy-to-audit resume. Use a single-column or restrained two-column layout with standard headings: Summary, Key Skills, Experience, Education, Professional Qualifications and Certifications. Avoid heavy colour, graphics and skill bars, because many banks and NBFCs screen applications through an applicant tracking system first.

Put professional qualifications (CA, CMA, CS, CFA, NISM, IRDAI, IIBF) near the top with the level cleared and the year, and add your membership number only if the role requires it. Write numbers the Indian way, in lakh and crore, and attach a scale to every bullet: portfolio size, number of ledgers, loan files, audit observations or closing days. Keep it to one page for under five years of experience and two pages for managers. Leave out photo, date of birth and a declaration unless the employer asks. Before uploading to Naukri or a bank portal, check the ATS-friendly resume guide.
