Inside sales numbers recruiters expect to see
Inside sales is one of the most measured jobs in any company, so a resume without numbers looks suspicious. Hiring managers in edtech, SaaS, fintech and insurance expect four kinds of metrics: activity (calls or talk time per day), conversion (lead-to-sale or demo-to-sale rate), revenue against target, and rank within the team.
Compare your figures with the team average when you can. "Converted 14.5% of qualified leads against a team average of 9%" is far more convincing than a conversion rate on its own, because the recruiter does not know how good your leads were. If you were in the top three of a large team for several months, say so with the exact count of months.
Inside sales vs telecalling: position yourself correctly
Many inside sales executives undersell themselves by writing their resume like a telecaller resume. Inside sales usually means owning the full cycle remotely: qualifying the lead, running a discovery call or video demo, handling objections, negotiating and closing payment. Make that ownership visible.
- Weak: "Made calls to leads and explained courses."
- Strong: "Ran needs-discovery and video counselling calls, closing ₹1.12 crore at 124% of target."
Name your CRM (LeadSquared, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho) and dialler, and mention payment tools or EMI partners if you arranged financing. These details show you can start selling from week one without heavy training.
Moving up from inside sales
If you are applying for a senior inside sales or team lead role, add proof of coaching: new joiners mentored, call-review sessions run, scripts improved. Recruiters want to see that you can lift other people's numbers, not just your own.
Freshers can present internships, college fest sponsorship drives or part-time customer support jobs, with any conversion numbers they can recall. Mention language skills clearly; companies selling to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities often prefer executives who speak Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or Marathi.
Be ready to explain any short stints. Early-career job changes are common in inside sales, but a clear reason ("moved to a higher-ticket product") helps.
Finally, keep the resume to one page and put your best monthly or annual achievement in the top third, where a busy sales manager will see it first.
Format and template for sales and marketing resumes
Sales and marketing hiring managers in India decide in seconds whether you can deliver numbers, so your format should push results to the surface. Start with a three-line summary that states your years of experience, the industry you sell or market in (FMCG, SaaS, real estate, BFSI, D2C) and one headline achievement. Follow it with Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications under standard headings so Naukri and company ATS software can read them.
For sales roles, every job should show target versus achievement, revenue in ₹ lakh or crore, territory size and the number of dealers, distributors or accounts you handled. For marketing and content roles, show campaign results, budgets, traffic or lead numbers, and add one portfolio or LinkedIn link instead of attaching samples. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. See how numbers are presented in our digital marketing resume example and check the ATS-friendly resume guide before you apply.
