Separate installation and service work on a lift technician resume

Elevator companies hire installation technicians and service technicians separately, and the skills differ. Installation means shaft survey, rail alignment, machine setting, door fixing and commissioning. Service means AMC visits, breakdown calls, adjustments and rescue. Show which side you have done, with separate jobs or bullets for each.

Name the lift types you know: traction with machine room, machine-room-less (MRL), hydraulic, goods lifts, hospital bed lifts, dumbwaiters or escalators. Add the controller and drive knowledge you have, such as VVVF drives and microprocessor controllers, without naming any confidential company systems. Building height and number of stops also help show your level.

Response time and reliability for lift technicians

For service roles, managers look at how quickly you respond, how many lifts you restore on the first visit and how much you reduce repeat breakdowns. Write those numbers.

  • Weak: "Handled lift maintenance and breakdowns."
  • Strong: "Maintain a route of about 60 lifts; average breakdown response 45 minutes, 90% first-visit fix."
  • Strong: "Cut repeat breakdowns on the route by 35% through preventive replacement of door parts."

For installation roles, give the number of lifts installed, building heights and whether you worked independently or as part of a crew. These figures make your experience easy to compare with other candidates. Mention whether you handle a route alone or with a helper, and whether you take night or emergency calls, because service managers plan duty rosters around this.

Safety, rescue and qualifications in lift jobs

Lift work combines electrical and height risks, so safety must be visible. Mention working-at-height training, lockout procedures, safe shaft entry and passenger rescue drills. If you have supported inspections by the state lift inspectorate, add it, because many states regulate lifts under their own Lifts Acts.

Most lift technicians come from ITI Electrician, Electronics Mechanic or Lift and Escalator Mechanic trades. Write yours with NCVT or SCVT and any apprenticeship. Freshers should mention ITI practical work and any time as an installation helper. For Gulf and overseas lift jobs, list the lift types and building categories clearly, and add passport details only when the agency asks.

Format and template for technician resumes

Technician and trade hiring in India is usually handled by plant HR teams, contractors, manpower consultants and Gulf recruitment agencies who look at hundreds of resumes for one opening. A simple one-page layout with clear headings works best: Summary, Trade and Licences, Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications. Put your ITI trade (NCVT or SCVT), diploma, apprenticeship and any licence near the top, with the licence class and validity, because many employers shortlist on these details alone.

Name the machines, tools, vehicles or equipment you have handled, and list safety training such as first aid, fire safety, working at height or lockout-tagout. Add passport number, expiry date and ECR/ECNR status only when you apply for Gulf or overseas jobs and the agency asks for it; leave it off resumes for Indian employers. Skip the photo unless it is requested. For the basic structure, see how to make a resume.

Frequently asked questions

ITI Electrician, Electronics Mechanic or Lift and Escalator Mechanic are the common routes. Lift companies also train helpers on the job, so practical experience counts heavily.
Yes. Escalator maintenance is a separate skill and many service contracts cover both, so mentioning it widens the roles you can apply for.
Add it under Certifications or Skills, for example "Lift passenger rescue and working-at-height training, 2022". Also mention rescue drills you have conducted with building staff.
