Prove uptime on a maintenance engineer resume
Maintenance heads hire people who keep equipment running, so your resume should open with uptime results. Use the measures the plant already tracks: breakdown hours, MTBF, MTTR, availability and maintenance cost. "Raised mill MTBF from 46 to 112 hours" proves more than "responsible for maintenance of plant equipment".
State the equipment you know well, such as rolling mills, presses, CNC machines, compressors, boilers, cranes or packaging lines, and say whether you are a mechanical, electrical or utility maintenance engineer. Steel, cement, auto and pharma plants all hire maintenance staff, but the equipment and expectations differ, so a clear match matters.
Breakdown, TPM and cost bullets that work
Strong maintenance bullets show the problem, the method and the gain. Mention the maintenance approach you used, such as preventive schedules, condition monitoring, TPM pillars or root cause analysis, and give the result.
- Cut breakdown hours by 41% in two years as planned-maintenance pillar lead.
- Saved ₹1.1 crore a year by reconditioning hydraulic cylinders in-house.
- Completed a ₹2.4 crore annual shutdown on time with zero incidents.
Include the size of your team and your role in shutdowns, because planning and leading a shutdown safely is a key step towards senior positions. Mention permit-to-work, lock-out tag-out and other safety systems you follow.
CMMS, certifications and early-career advice
Most large plants run maintenance through SAP PM, Maximo or another CMMS, so list the system and what you do in it: notifications, work orders, preventive schedules or spares reservation. Vibration analysis, thermography and oil analysis training are valued for predictive maintenance roles, and a boiler competency or crane inspection certificate helps where those are required.
Diploma holders and fresh B.Tech graduates usually start in breakdown maintenance on shifts. Describe the machines you handled, the faults you fixed on your own and any improvement you made, such as a lubrication chart or a spare-parts list. Keep the language practical; maintenance heads value hands-on fault finding more than theory. If you have handled night or weekend breakdown duty alone, say so, because it shows the level of trust the plant already places in you.
Format and template for engineering resumes
Plant heads, project managers and HR teams at manufacturing, infrastructure and EPC companies usually shortlist from Naukri, LinkedIn or a referral, often on a phone between shifts or site visits. A clean, single-column layout with clear headings such as Summary, Technical Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications works best, and it also passes applicant tracking systems used by larger groups.
Lead each job with the plant, site or product you handled: "two-wheeler chassis line, 1,200 units a day" or "G+14 residential tower, 2.1 lakh sq ft". Then show results in numbers recruiters understand: OEE, PPM rejection, downtime hours, cost saved, schedule met, safe man-hours. List software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, STAAD.Pro, SAP, Primavera) and standards (IS codes, ISO 9001, IATF 16949) by their exact names. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. A photo and date of birth are optional; leave them out unless the employer asks.
