What a marketing executive resume should prove
A marketing executive is usually the person who makes campaigns happen: booking vendors, coordinating events, preparing creatives, posting on social media and tracking spend. Recruiters want to see that you are organised, quick and comfortable with both field and digital work.
Show the volume and reach of what you coordinated. "Coordinated 25 in-store activations reaching about 9,000 shoppers" or "Managed a trade fair stall that generated 340 leads" proves capability in a way that "assisted in marketing activities" never will. If you handled a budget, mention its size and how you tracked it; many managers value an executive who keeps vendor bills and approvals in order.
Use MBA projects and internships wisely
With one or two years of experience, your MBA or BBA projects still matter. Choose the one closest to the job and write it like work experience: the objective, what you did, the sample size and the outcome.
- Weak: "Did a project on consumer behaviour."
- Strong: "Surveyed 420 households and 60 retailers; recommended a 5 kg value pack that the company later launched."
Drop generic course subjects and certificates that every MBA student has. Keep one or two that show practical skills, such as Google Analytics or a digital marketing course with a live campaign. The resume for freshers guide shows more ways to present projects.
Tailor your marketing executive resume to the company
The marketing executive title means different things in different companies. In FMCG and manufacturing it is often BTL, trade marketing and dealer support. In hospitals, schools and real estate it is events, local promotions and lead generation. In startups it may be mostly digital.
Read the job description and move the matching skills to the top of your skills list. Use the exact words from the posting, such as "BTL activation", "lead generation" or "social media marketing", because recruiters search Naukri with these terms.
Mention local languages and willingness to travel within the region if the role involves field activations. Keep the resume to one page, and include a link to a small portfolio of creatives or event photos only if they show your own work.
Format and template for sales and marketing resumes
Sales and marketing hiring managers in India decide in seconds whether you can deliver numbers, so your format should push results to the surface. Start with a three-line summary that states your years of experience, the industry you sell or market in (FMCG, SaaS, real estate, BFSI, D2C) and one headline achievement. Follow it with Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications under standard headings so Naukri and company ATS software can read them.
For sales roles, every job should show target versus achievement, revenue in ₹ lakh or crore, territory size and the number of dealers, distributors or accounts you handled. For marketing and content roles, show campaign results, budgets, traffic or lead numbers, and add one portfolio or LinkedIn link instead of attaching samples. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. See how numbers are presented in our digital marketing resume example and check the ATS-friendly resume guide before you apply.
