Show the coverage you earned as a PR executive
PR agencies and corporate communication teams want proof that you can get stories published. Quantify earned media: number of stories, the type of outlets (national business dailies, regional language papers, trade magazines, online news, broadcast) and interviews arranged for spokespersons.
Quality matters more than volume. "18 stories in national business dailies" can be more impressive than "300 mentions", many of which may be syndicated press releases. If you still track advertising value equivalent (AVE) because a client asks for it, mention it carefully; many modern PR teams now prefer share of voice, message pull-through and key-outlet coverage. Name the beats you work with, such as technology, healthcare, education or consumer.
Writing samples and media relationships
Writing is at the heart of PR. List the formats you write: press releases, media pitches, bylined articles, briefing documents, Q&As, holding statements, newsletters and social posts. Recruiters often give a press release test, so keep two or three published samples ready to share.
- Weak: "Responsible for media relations and press releases."
- Strong: "Wrote 40 press releases and 25 bylined articles; secured 140 stories in 12 months."
You do not need to name the journalists you know, but you can mention the breadth of your network, for example "media list of 300 journalists across business, tech and Hindi publications". Never share confidential client information or embargoed news on your resume.
Freshers and crisis experience in PR
Most PR executives start as interns at agencies. If you are a fresher, describe your internship tasks with numbers: media lists built, monitoring reports compiled, stories you helped secure. College newspaper, radio or event publicity work also counts.
Crisis communication experience stands out at any level. Even a small role, such as drafting a holding statement or monitoring coverage during a product recall, shows you can stay calm and accurate under pressure.
Hindi and regional language skills are valuable because many brands want coverage beyond English media. Keep the resume to one page until you have about five years of experience. Add a short line on tools such as media monitoring platforms, Google Alerts or press release distribution services if you use them daily.
Format and template for sales and marketing resumes
Sales and marketing hiring managers in India decide in seconds whether you can deliver numbers, so your format should push results to the surface. Start with a three-line summary that states your years of experience, the industry you sell or market in (FMCG, SaaS, real estate, BFSI, D2C) and one headline achievement. Follow it with Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications under standard headings so Naukri and company ATS software can read them.
For sales roles, every job should show target versus achievement, revenue in ₹ lakh or crore, territory size and the number of dealers, distributors or accounts you handled. For marketing and content roles, show campaign results, budgets, traffic or lead numbers, and add one portfolio or LinkedIn link instead of attaching samples. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. See how numbers are presented in our digital marketing resume example and check the ATS-friendly resume guide before you apply.
