What hiring managers want from an operations manager resume

An operations manager is hired to keep output, cost and service in balance, so your resume should prove you have done that at a known scale. In the first lines of your summary, state your years of experience, the type of operation (plant, warehouse, service centre, multi-site) and the size of the team or budget you run. "Operations manager with 11 years in auto-component manufacturing, leading 160 people" is far stronger than "result-oriented professional with rich experience".

Indian recruiters for these roles often search Naukri for terms such as OTIF, lean, Six Sigma, SAP and P&L, so use those exact words where they are true. If you have handled more than one site, a plant expansion or a new line launch, say so in the summary as well.

Turning daily firefighting into measurable results

Most operations resumes list duties like "responsible for production, dispatch and manpower". Replace them with outcomes and the lever you pulled:

  • Weak: Handled dispatch and customer complaints.
  • Strong: Raised OTIF from 86% to 96% in 18 months with daily tier meetings and supplier reviews.
  • Strong: Cut conversion cost by 9% through manpower rebalancing and vendor consolidation.

Good metrics for this role include OTIF, OEE, cost per unit, inventory days, attrition, safety incidents and audit findings. If exact numbers are confidential, use percentages or ranges, and be ready to explain how you calculated them in the interview.

Showing leadership, systems and certifications

Senior operations roles are as much about people as process. Mention how many supervisors or shift in-charges report to you, how you handled contract labour, union discussions or multi-shift planning, and any SOPs or training systems you built.

List the ERP you use (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and the modules you touch, plus dashboards in Power BI or Excel. Certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or experience with ISO 9001, IATF 16949 or ISO 45001 audits, help you clear screening for manufacturing roles. If you are moving from a supervisor to a manager role, highlight projects where you owned a budget or led cross-functional teams, not only shift output.

Format and template for operations resumes

Operations and supply chain hiring in India is driven by numbers: on-time dispatch, inventory accuracy, cost per shipment, fill rate, OTIF and audit scores. Use a clean single-column layout with standard headings (Summary, Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications) so Naukri, LinkedIn and company ATS tools can parse it, and let each experience bullet carry at least one measurable result.

Name the systems you actually use, such as SAP MM, SAP WM or EWM, Oracle, Tally Prime, a WMS or TMS, and Excel with pivot tables. Mention the scale of your work: number of SKUs, warehouse area in sq ft, monthly purchase value, fleet size or containers handled. One page works up to about five years of experience; managers can use two. Skip photo, date of birth and declaration unless the employer asks. Frequently asked questions

Two pages is normal for operations managers with eight or more years of experience. Keep the first page focused on your current role, key results and skills so a recruiter sees your fit within a few seconds.
Use the KPIs you were actually measured on, such as OTIF, OEE, cost per unit, inventory days, safety incidents and audit scores. Show the before and after values and the time period wherever you can.
It is not mandatory, but many large companies prefer an MBA in operations or a B.E./B.Tech with strong shop-floor experience. Proven results and certifications such as Six Sigma often matter as much as the degree.
