Make PGT eligibility obvious in seconds

A Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) post usually requires a master's degree in the subject with minimum marks plus a B.Ed. KVS and NVS PGT posts do not ask for CTET, but some states ask for a state-level eligibility test for higher secondary teachers, such as SET in Kerala. Recruiters check the subject of your master's degree first, so write it exactly as it appears on your certificate.

Use a title like "PGT Chemistry" and include an Education section that lists the M.Sc. (or M.A., M.Com), B.Ed and any NET or SET qualification with year and marks. If your master's subject differs slightly from the post (for example M.Sc. Applied Chemistry), check the advertisement's accepted list before applying.

Board results and lab work for senior classes

At the senior secondary level, schools judge a PGT mostly on Class XII board results and student progress in entrance exams. Write numbers you can back with school records:

• Pass percentage and subject average over several years.
• Number of students scoring 90+ in your subject.
• Students who qualified NEET, JEE Main, CUET or Olympiads after your guidance.

Science PGTs should mention lab management, chemical or equipment registers, safety audits and CBSE practical examiner duties. Commerce and humanities PGTs can mention project work, case-study teaching and board evaluation duties. Avoid claiming credit for coaching institute results unless you taught the batch.

Experienced PGT teachers and interview day

Experienced teachers should add leadership roles such as department head, exam in-charge, timetable coordinator or house master, because many schools fill these from PGT staff. Mention board evaluation or paper-setting duties if you have done them.

For KVS or NVS interviews and private school demos, carry a printed CV, a lesson plan for one topic, original certificates and self-attested copies. Keep personal details formal; add date of birth only if the format asks for it, since some schools use age limits. A two-page CV is fine. Format for government and PSU job resumes

Government offices, PSUs, research institutes and NGOs running public projects still prefer a formal, single-column CV with plain headings: Personal Details, Educational Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Declaration. Many advertisements ask for details that private employers do not, such as date of birth, category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) or father's name. Add these only when the advertisement or prescribed format asks for them, and attach a category certificate only if it is requested.

Make sure every date, percentage and name on your CV matches the online application form and your certificates exactly, because scrutiny committees reject mismatches. Keep self-attested copies of mark sheets, experience letters and certificates ready in the order they appear on the CV. If the advertisement asks for a declaration, end with a short signed statement that the information is true, with place and date.
