Prove your PHP skills are modern
PHP is still widely used across Indian web agencies, e-commerce businesses and SaaS startups, but recruiters worry about developers who only know old procedural code. Show that you work with modern PHP: version 8.x, Composer, a framework such as Laravel or Symfony, object-oriented design, and testing with PHPUnit or Pest.
Your summary should name the framework and versions you use and the kind of applications you build. If you have upgraded legacy PHP 5 or CodeIgniter projects, highlight it. Migrations are valuable work and show you can understand messy code, which is exactly what many agency and product teams need.
PHP project bullets that show business results
Agencies and product companies both want to know what your code did for the client or business. Pair each project with its scale and outcome.
- Weak: Worked on Laravel e-commerce website.
- Strong: Built order, commission and payout modules for a Laravel marketplace with 2,500+ sellers.
- Weak: Did query optimisation.
- Strong: Cut order-report generation from 40 seconds to 6 seconds with indexing and eager loading.
Payment gateway, courier and SMS or WhatsApp API integrations are common in Indian projects, so mention the ones you have built. If you have handled hosting, cPanel, Linux servers or deployments, add that too, because smaller teams often expect PHP developers to manage their own releases.
Where WordPress fits on a PHP developer resume
WordPress work is useful experience, but present it carefully. Installing themes and editing content is not development; building custom themes, plugins, WooCommerce extensions or headless WordPress with REST APIs is. Describe what you coded, not which page builder you used.
If you want to move from WordPress agency work into Laravel product roles, keep WordPress to one bullet per job and add a Laravel project with authentication, queues, API resources and tests. Freshers with BCA or MCA backgrounds should include a final-year project built in Laravel, with a short description of its features and database design. Keep the resume to one page until you have about four years of experience, and see our resume skills guide for help choosing what to list.
Format and template for IT resumes
Most IT applications in India go through Naukri, LinkedIn, company career portals or a vendor's applicant tracking system before a human reads them. Use a clean, single-column or light two-column layout with standard headings such as Summary, Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications, so the parser can read every section.
Keep the resume to one page if you have under four years of experience and two pages after that. Put your tech stack near the top, but group it (Languages, Frameworks, Databases, Cloud and Tools) instead of listing thirty logos. Add your GitHub, portfolio or LinkedIn link only if it is up to date. Leave out photo, date of birth, marital status and a declaration unless an employer specifically asks for them. Read our ATS-friendly resume guide before you upload to a job portal.
