Lead with Suryamitra and your electrical trade

Solar EPC companies hiring technicians usually look for two things on the first screen: an electrical background and solar-specific training. Put your ITI Electrician, Wireman or Electronics trade, or electrical diploma, in Education, and list Suryamitra training from the National Institute of Solar Energy under Certifications with the year. Suryamitra is widely recognised by installers and helps freshers get a first site job.

If you also hold a wireman licence, add it; some states and DISCOMs expect licensed persons to sign off on electrical connections. Mention working-at-height training as well, because rooftop work is the main safety risk in this job and supervisors ask about it in almost every interview.

Rooftop installation and testing details for solar technicians

Installers want proof you can finish a system correctly, not just carry modules. Describe the full job and use numbers.

  • Weak: "Worked on solar panel installation."
  • Strong: "Installed 46 rooftop systems from 3 kW to 50 kW, including structure, modules, cabling and earthing."
  • Strong: "Tested Voc and Isc on every string before inverter connection and recorded results."

Mention on-grid, off-grid or hybrid systems, inverter commissioning and monitoring apps, MC4 crimping, earthing pits and lightning arresters. With rooftop solar subsidy schemes driving demand, experience with net-meter paperwork and DISCOM inspections is valued, so add it if you have done it.

From fresher to O&M or site supervisor

Freshers can use a Projects section for training installations, such as a rooftop system built during Suryamitra or ITI practicals. Write the system size, your tasks and any test results; this gives an interviewer something concrete to ask about.

Technicians with a year or two of experience can move into utility-scale O&M in solar parks or become site supervisors. For O&M roles, mention module cleaning schedules, inverter alarm handling, generation reports and preventive checks. For supervisor roles, add team size and the number of projects handed over. Keep the resume to one page, avoid long objectives and say if you are willing to travel to sites across districts or states.

Format and template for technician resumes

Technician and trade hiring in India is usually handled by plant HR teams, contractors, manpower consultants and Gulf recruitment agencies who look at hundreds of resumes for one opening. A simple one-page layout with clear headings works best: Summary, Trade and Licences, Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications. Put your ITI trade (NCVT or SCVT), diploma, apprenticeship and any licence near the top, with the licence class and validity, because many employers shortlist on these details alone.

Name the machines, tools, vehicles or equipment you have handled, and list safety training such as first aid, fire safety, working at height or lockout-tagout. Add passport number, expiry date and ECR/ECNR status only when you apply for Gulf or overseas jobs and the agency asks for it; leave it off resumes for Indian employers. Skip the photo unless it is requested. For the basic structure, see how to make a resume.
