Show accounts payable volume, accuracy and SLAs
Shared service centres and GCCs measure accounts payable teams on volume, accuracy and turnaround. Your resume should show the same three numbers. Write how many invoices you process each month, your quality or accuracy score and the SLA you work against.
"Process 2,200+ invoices a month with 99.5% accuracy against a 98% SLA" is the kind of line AP team leads look for. Also mention the regions or entities you support (India, UK, US, Middle East), because global process experience is valued and often needs shift flexibility.
If you have received a quality award, spot recognition or been made a subject-matter expert for a vendor group, add it briefly; team leads treat these as evidence that you can be trusted with complex queues.
Accounts payable executive bullets about controls
Payables is a control function as much as a processing one. Show that you prevent errors, duplicate payments and compliance misses.
- Weak: "Processing of vendor invoices."
- Strong: "Cut the three-way match exception backlog from 340 to 90 invoices by working with buyers weekly."
- Strong: "Cleared ₹1.1 crore of old unreconciled vendor balances through quarterly statement reconciliation."
Indian AP roles also involve TDS deduction under the correct section, GST input tax credit checks and payment of MSME vendors within 45 days. Mention these, because they show you understand local compliance, not just the ERP screens.
Tools and growth paths for AP professionals
Name the exact systems you use: SAP FI, Oracle Payables, Coupa, Ariba, Tally Prime or an OCR invoice tool. Recruiters for shared service centres search on these names. Add Excel skills such as pivots, XLOOKUP and Power Query if you build ageing or exception reports.
B.Com freshers can enter AP through process associate roles; highlight accuracy in any internship, typing speed and willingness to work in shifts. Experienced executives aiming for senior AP or P2P team lead roles should show training of new joiners, process improvement ideas and audit support. Format and template for finance and banking resumes
Finance recruiters, bank HR teams and CA firm partners expect a conservative, easy-to-audit resume. Use a single-column or restrained two-column layout with standard headings: Summary, Key Skills, Experience, Education, Professional Qualifications and Certifications. Avoid heavy colour, graphics and skill bars, because many banks and NBFCs screen applications through an applicant tracking system first.
Put professional qualifications (CA, CMA, CS, CFA, NISM, IRDAI, IIBF) near the top with the level cleared and the year, and add your membership number only if the role requires it. Write numbers the Indian way, in lakh and crore, and attach a scale to every bullet: portfolio size, number of ledgers, loan files, audit observations or closing days. Keep it to one page for under five years of experience and two pages for managers. Leave out photo, date of birth and a declaration unless the employer asks. Before uploading to Naukri or a bank portal, check the ATS-friendly resume guide.
