Choosing a direction for a BA fresher resume

A BA opens doors to content writing, customer support, HR and admin, school coordination, journalism, research assistance and sales. That variety is exactly why generic arts resumes fail: "good communication skills and willingness to learn" describes every applicant. Pick one direction, write the summary for it, and keep a second version for your backup option.

Your major tells recruiters what you can do. English and mass communication graduates should lead with writing and editing; psychology graduates with counselling, HR or research; economics graduates with data, Excel and surveys; history and political science graduates with research, policy and writing.

Proving communication skills on a BA resume

Every BA resume claims strong communication; few prove it. Replace adjectives with output a recruiter can check:

• Weak: "Excellent writing skills in English and Hindi."
• Strong: "Wrote 42 news and feature stories in three months; 3 crossed 20,000 page views."
• Strong: "Translated 25 Hindi press releases into English on same-day deadlines."

For content roles, add a portfolio or published article link only if it opens without a login. For customer support roles, mention languages, typing speed and any experience handling queries, even from a college helpdesk or an event registration desk. For HR or admin roles, show coordination instead: events you organised, how many people attended and which records or registers you maintained.

Projects and activities that work for arts graduates

BA programmes rarely include formal internships, so college activities and dissertations fill the gap. A student magazine, debating society, NSS camp, field survey or theatre production can each become a project entry with one or two specific bullets: team size, deadline, output and audience.

Keep Class 10 and Class 12 marks with board names, as BPO, bank back-office and edtech recruiters still screen on them. Add practical certificates such as NIELIT CCC, a typing certificate or a content marketing course. If you are also preparing for UPSC, state PSC or SSC exams, you need not mention it unless it explains a gap; focus the page on the role in front of you.

Format and template for fresher resumes

Recruiters at campus drives and on Naukri spend only a few seconds on a fresher resume, so keep it to one page. Because you have little or no work history, put Education right after a two-line summary: degree, college, university, year and CGPA or percentage, followed by Class 12 and Class 10 rows with board and marks. Many Indian employers still screen on a 60% or 6.0 CGPA cut-off across 10th, 12th and graduation, so missing marks look like you are hiding something.

Next come Projects and Internships, which is where you prove skills. Give each project a title, your role, the tools used and one measurable result. Then add certifications (NPTEL, Tally, NSDC, Google), skills, achievements and languages.
