Pick the right type of business analyst role

In India, the title "business analyst" covers at least three kinds of job: IT business analysts who write requirements for software teams, process or operations analysts who improve workflows, and data-focused analysts who build reports and insights. Recruiters search with different keywords for each, so make your type clear in the first line of your summary.

Add your domain, because banking, insurance, healthcare, retail and supply chain projects each need domain knowledge. "Business analyst with 5 years in lending and payments for banks and NBFCs" is far more useful to a recruiter than "BA with good communication skills".

Business analyst bullets that show outcomes

Many BA resumes list documents ("prepared BRD, FRD, use cases") without showing why they mattered. Connect your work to an outcome for the business or the delivery team:

• Wrote 220+ user stories with acceptance criteria, reducing requirement defects in UAT by 35%.
• Mapped the disbursement process and proposed automation that cut turnaround from 3 days to 6 hours.
• Built a Power BI dashboard on drop-offs that helped raise application completion by 12%.

Mention how you gathered requirements (workshops, interviews, shadowing) and how many stakeholders or teams were involved. Hiring managers often ask you to walk through one requirement from discovery to UAT. Regulated domains also value BAs who have turned RBI, IRDAI or SEBI circulars into system requirements, so include that if you have done it.

Skills, certifications and switching into business analysis

Show both sides of the role. Functional skills include requirement elicitation, process mapping, gap analysis and UAT. Tool skills include JIRA, Confluence, Visio or Lucidchart, SQL, Excel and Power BI. Keep the list honest, as many interviews include a short SQL or case exercise.

IIBA certifications such as ECBA or CCBA, and Agile certifications, help when you move from operations or testing into a BA role. Operations and supply chain hiring in India is driven by numbers: on-time dispatch, inventory accuracy, cost per shipment, fill rate, OTIF and audit scores. Use a clean single-column layout with standard headings (Summary, Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications) so Naukri, LinkedIn and company ATS tools can parse it, and let each experience bullet carry at least one measurable result.

Name the systems you actually use, such as SAP MM, SAP WM or EWM, Oracle, Tally Prime, a WMS or TMS, and Excel with pivot tables. Mention the scale of your work: number of SKUs, warehouse area in sq ft, monthly purchase value, fleet size or containers handled.
