Show your cuisines, sections and kitchen level

Executive chefs reading a chef resume want to place you in the brigade within seconds. State your current rank (commis, chef de partie, sous chef, executive chef), the cuisines you are strongest in and the type of kitchen: hotel all-day dining, banquets, cloud kitchen, QSR, fine dining or a cruise line.

"Chef with experience in all cuisines" is weak, because nobody believes it. "Chef de partie, tandoor and North Indian, 200 to 250 covers a night" is specific and credible. If you have worked in a speciality section such as pastry, Pan-Asian or South Indian, say so in your title, because many hotel jobs on Naukri are posted by section.

Chef achievements: covers, food cost and hygiene

Owners and F&B managers care about food quality, but they also judge a chef by cost and compliance. Add numbers wherever you can:

  • Number of covers or banquet guests you handled per service.
  • Food cost percentage before and after your changes.
  • Wastage reduced through FIFO, yield testing or better requisitions.
  • Audit results, such as FSSAI inspections or brand hygiene audits.
  • Menus you created and how they sold.

The FSSAI FoSTaC food safety supervisor training is increasingly asked for, and many kitchens need at least one trained supervisor on every shift. Add it with the level (basic, advanced catering) and the year. If you have trained commis or reduced ticket times, include that too, because it shows you can lead a section and not only cook.

Common mistakes on chef resumes in India

Many chefs send a resume with a long list of dish names and no information about scale or responsibility. Keep signature dishes to one line and spend the space on what you managed. Another mistake is leaving gaps unexplained; seasonal resort work is normal in hill stations and Goa, so write the season dates clearly instead of hiding them.

Freshers from hotel management colleges should mention industrial training, the kitchens they rotated through and any culinary competitions. If you are applying abroad or to cruise lines, add passport availability and certifications such as food hygiene and first aid. A photo is optional for kitchen roles; a clean, simple layout matters more. Our resume skills guide can help you choose which techniques to list.

Format and template for hospitality and retail resumes

Hospitality and retail recruiters read quickly, often on a phone between shifts, so a clean one-page layout with clear headings works best. Put your current role, property or store type and years of experience at the top, followed by measurable results such as guest scores, upselling, sales targets or audit ratings.

A professional photo is normal and often expected for guest-facing roles such as cabin crew, front office, guest relations and some luxury retail jobs. Use a recent, well-lit photo in grooming standards similar to the job. For back-office, BPO and kitchen roles, a photo is optional.

List languages with honest levels, because Hindi, English and a regional or foreign language are real advantages with tourists and customers. Mention shift flexibility, night shifts or readiness to relocate in your summary if it is true. For bullet ideas, see our guide on writing resume experience.
