Interior designer resume: show project type, size and budget
Studio owners and turnkey firms want to know quickly what kind of spaces you have handled. For each job, mention the project types (apartments, villas, offices, retail stores, restaurants), typical carpet area and the budget range. "Delivered 45+ projects from 2BHK apartments to 12,000 sq ft offices, with budgets up to ₹1.2 crore" gives a clear picture in one line.
Also say whether your role was design-only or design plus execution. Many Indian firms run turnkey projects where the same designer prepares drawings, manages the carpenter and electrician, and hands over the keys, so execution experience is a real advantage.
Balancing design skills with site execution
A strong interior designer resume shows both the creative side and the practical side. Recruiters look for working drawings, electrical and ceiling layouts, BOQs, vendor coordination and timely handover, not only beautiful 3D renders.
- Weak: "Handled interior projects from start to end."
- Strong: "Prepared working drawings and BOQs that cut site rework queries by about 35%."
- Strong: "Delivered 92% of projects by the committed handover date."
If you know modular furniture production, cutting lists or local material markets, say so. Mention Vastu-compliant planning only if clients in your market ask for it and you can discuss it confidently. Experience with specific materials such as veneers, quartz, gypsum ceilings or acoustic panels also helps when a studio specialises in a particular kind of space.
Software, memberships and portfolio for interior designers
List AutoCAD and SketchUp first because almost every studio uses them, then add rendering tools such as V-Ray, Lumion or Enscape and 3ds Max if you use it. Excel for BOQs is worth mentioning.
Interior design is not a protected title in India the way "architect" is, so you do not need a council registration. Do not claim Council of Architecture registration unless you hold a B.Arch and are registered. Membership of the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) can add credibility if you have it. Freshers should highlight their final-year project, internship site exposure and a compact portfolio PDF of about 15 pages with drawings, renders and site photos.
Format and template for creative resumes
Creative hiring in India usually starts with your work, not your resume. Put a clickable portfolio, showreel or clips link in the header next to your phone number and email, and check that it opens without a login or an access request. Behance and Dribbble work well for designers, a personal website or Vimeo suits video and animation, and a Google Drive folder is fine only if sharing is set to anyone with the link.
The resume itself still passes through Naukri, LinkedIn or an agency's applicant tracking system, so balance visual style with readability. Keep all text as real text rather than text inside images, use standard headings such as Experience, Skills and Education, and stick to one or two accent colours. Name your software and specialisation clearly, add numbers to your projects and keep it to one or two pages. Our how to make a resume guide covers the basics.
