Put your video editor showreel above the fold
Production houses, ad agencies and creator teams decide within the first minute of your showreel, so the link must sit in your resume header. Keep the reel between 60 and 90 seconds, open with your strongest cut, and add a separate playlist of full-length pieces for people who want to see your storytelling over a longer duration.
In the summary, state the formats you specialise in: YouTube long-form, Reels and Shorts, ad films, documentaries, weddings or OTT promos. A recruiter hiring for a podcast-heavy YouTube channel looks for very different skills from a recruiter hiring for a 30-second TV commercial.
Video editor bullets that show speed and results
Editing is judged on quality and on how reliably you deliver. Your bullets should include volume (videos per week, Reels per month), turnaround time and any audience results you can see, such as views, watch time or retention.
- Weak: "Edited videos for YouTube and Instagram."
- Strong: "Edit 3 to 4 long-form YouTube videos a week for channels with 4.5 million subscribers."
- Strong: "Raised average view duration from 38% to 51% by restructuring intros and pacing."
If you improved the workflow with proxies, templates, shared bins or a review tool such as Frame.io, mention it. Studios value editors who make the whole team faster. Handling client feedback rounds calmly and meeting launch deadlines for brand campaigns are also worth noting with a number or two.
Software and genre keywords for editing jobs
Premiere Pro is the most common requirement in Indian job listings, followed by DaVinci Resolve for colour and Final Cut Pro in Mac-based studios. List After Effects only if you can create real motion graphics, not just apply presets. Audio tools such as Audition are a plus.
If you edit in regional languages such as Marathi, Tamil, Telugu or Bengali, say so, because regional OTT platforms and news channels look for this. Freshers can build a reel from college short films, freelance wedding edits and recut trailers, clearly labelled as personal projects. Common mistakes include broken Drive links, reels longer than three minutes and listing every plugin you have installed.
Format and template for creative resumes
Creative hiring in India usually starts with your work, not your resume. Put a clickable portfolio, showreel or clips link in the header next to your phone number and email, and check that it opens without a login or an access request. Behance and Dribbble work well for designers, a personal website or Vimeo suits video and animation, and a Google Drive folder is fine only if sharing is set to anyone with the link.
The resume itself still passes through Naukri, LinkedIn or an agency's applicant tracking system, so balance visual style with readability. Keep all text as real text rather than text inside images, use standard headings such as Experience, Skills and Education, and stick to one or two accent colours. Name your software and specialisation clearly, add numbers to your projects and keep it to one or two pages. Our how to make a resume guide covers the basics.
