Put your Council of Architecture registration up front

Under the Architects Act, 1972, only people registered with the Council of Architecture (CoA) can use the title "architect" in India. Recruiters at practices and developers check this first, so add your CoA registration number in the summary or certifications section. You can mask part of the number on public job portals and share it in full when asked.

If you have just completed your B.Arch and your registration is in process, write "CoA registration applied, 2026" rather than leaving it out. Graduates with foreign degrees should mention whether their qualification is recognised for CoA registration.

Architect resume bullets: scale, stage and approvals

For each job, show the typology, size and stage of the projects you handled. Built-up area in sq ft or sq m, approximate project value and the number of units or students give the reader a sense of scale. Then say which stages you owned: concept, design development, building permission, GFC drawings or site coordination.

• Weak: "Worked on residential and commercial projects."
• Strong: "Led design and documentation for a 2.4 lakh sq ft mixed-use project."
• Strong: "Secured building permissions without major objections on 4 consecutive submissions."

Knowledge of the local development control regulations, the National Building Code 2016 and fire norms is valuable, so mention it. Developers and design-build firms also like to see cost awareness, such as value engineering or keeping drawings aligned with the approved budget.

Software, portfolio and early-career tips for architects

Revit and BIM coordination are in growing demand at larger practices and developers, while AutoCAD remains essential everywhere. Add SketchUp, Rhino, Lumion or Enscape for design and visualisation. A green building credential such as IGBC AP or GRIHA training helps for sustainable and institutional projects.

Keep a portfolio PDF of 15 to 20 pages, under 10 MB, with drawings as well as renders. Freshers should lead with their thesis, the practical training semester at a firm and any competition entries. Avoid listing every software you opened once and do not fill the resume with design philosophy; practices want to see what you can draw, coordinate and deliver.

Format and template for creative resumes

Creative hiring in India usually starts with your work, not your resume. Put a clickable portfolio, showreel or clips link in the header next to your phone number and email, and check that it opens without a login or an access request. Behance and Dribbble work well for designers, a personal website or Vimeo suits video and animation, and a Google Drive folder is fine only if sharing is set to anyone with the link.

The resume itself still passes through Naukri, LinkedIn or an agency's applicant tracking system, so balance visual style with readability. Keep all text as real text rather than text inside images, use standard headings such as Experience, Skills and Education, and stick to one or two accent colours.
