Lead with your photography genre and portfolio link
"Photographer" covers very different jobs: wedding and events, e-commerce catalogue, fashion, food, architecture and photojournalism. Indian employers, from marketplace studios to newspapers and agencies, want to know your genre in the first line. "Wedding and product photographer with 6 years and 120+ weddings" is far more useful than "creative photographer passionate about capturing moments".
Put your portfolio website or a curated Instagram profile in the header. Show 20 to 30 of your best images grouped by genre, and make sure the first few match the job you are applying for.
Photographer bullets with volume and delivery numbers
Clients and employers care about consistency and delivery as much as creativity. Show how many events or SKUs you have shot, how quickly you deliver, how you manage a team on the day and how clients find you.
- Weak: "Did wedding and product shoots."
- Strong: "Shot catalogue images for 4,000+ SKUs to marketplace image guidelines."
- Strong: "Deliver edited galleries of 600 to 900 images within 21 days."
E-commerce studios look for throughput, such as products shot per day and consistent white backgrounds, while wedding studios look for team handling, candid storytelling and album delivery.
If you have shot for newspapers, magazines or brand campaigns, name the publication or category of client and the type of assignment. Published credits and repeat clients are strong proof that your work is reliable, and they help you stand apart from hobbyists with good cameras.
Gear, software and freelancers moving to full-time roles
Do not turn your resume into a gear list. Mention the camera systems you are comfortable with, lighting experience and your editing tools, such as Lightroom, Photoshop and Capture One for tethered studio work.
If you have been freelancing, present your business as a job with a clear title such as "Founder and Lead Photographer", and add numbers for shoots, clients and repeat bookings. Freshers should mention assisting senior photographers, college exhibitions and any published work. Common mistakes include heavy watermarks across portfolio images, a dead website link and sharing client photos without permission. Keep the resume clean and readable so the images in your portfolio do the impressing.
Format and template for creative resumes
Creative hiring in India usually starts with your work, not your resume. Put a clickable portfolio, showreel or clips link in the header next to your phone number and email, and check that it opens without a login or an access request. Behance and Dribbble work well for designers, a personal website or Vimeo suits video and animation, and a Google Drive folder is fine only if sharing is set to anyone with the link.
The resume itself still passes through Naukri, LinkedIn or an agency's applicant tracking system, so balance visual style with readability. Keep all text as real text rather than text inside images, use standard headings such as Experience, Skills and Education, and stick to one or two accent colours. Name your software and specialisation clearly, add numbers to your projects and keep it to one or two pages. Our how to make a resume guide covers the basics.
