How a product designer resume differs from a UI/UX resume

Indian product companies use "product designer" for designers who own a problem end to end, from understanding users and business goals to shipping and measuring the result. Your resume should show that ownership. Describe the product, its users and scale, the problem you took on and how you worked with product managers, engineers, data and business teams.

A UI/UX resume often focuses on screens and tools. A product designer resume should focus on decisions: what you chose to build, what you dropped and why. Mention the domain clearly, such as B2B SaaS, fintech, health-tech or e-commerce, because many companies prefer designers who already understand their industry and its regulations.

Product designer achievements tied to business metrics

Senior product designers are expected to talk about business outcomes. Use the numbers your team tracked: conversion, activation, retention, task time, error rates and support tickets.

• Weak: "Designed new features for the payroll product."
• Strong: "Redesigned the payroll-run workflow, cutting processing time from 3 days to under 1 and support tickets by 27%."
• Strong: "Onboarding experiments raised trial-to-paid conversion from 9% to 13%."

When results came from a team effort, say "partnered with" or "with the growth team". Hiring managers respect honest credit and will ask about your exact contribution in interviews. Where metrics were not tracked, describe the qualitative evidence, such as research findings or customer feedback that changed the roadmap.

Leadership, portfolio and seniority signals for product designers

For lead and principal roles, show how you raise the quality of the whole team: team size, hiring, design reviews, research roadmaps and design systems. One or two bullets on leadership are enough if they include numbers.

Your portfolio should hold two or three deep case studies rather than many shallow ones. For work under NDA, remove client names and sensitive numbers, show percentage changes instead of absolute values, and offer a password-protected walkthrough during interviews. Two pages is fine for ten years of experience. Common mistakes include listing every tool from the last decade and describing your title without explaining the problems you solved.

Format and template for creative resumes

Creative hiring in India usually starts with your work, not your resume. Put a clickable portfolio, showreel or clips link in the header next to your phone number and email, and check that it opens without a login or an access request. Behance and Dribbble work well for designers, a personal website or Vimeo suits video and animation, and a Google Drive folder is fine only if sharing is set to anyone with the link.

The resume itself still passes through Naukri, LinkedIn or an agency's applicant tracking system, so balance visual style with readability. Keep all text as real text rather than text inside images, use standard headings such as Experience, Skills and Education, and stick to one or two accent colours.
