Show React depth beyond "knows React"
Because React is so popular, recruiters see hundreds of resumes that simply list "React.js, Redux, HTML, CSS". To stand out, show the depth of your React experience: which version, hooks or class components, how you manage state (Redux Toolkit, Zustand, Context or React Query) and whether you use Next.js for server-side rendering.
Your summary should mention the type of products you have built, such as dashboards, e-commerce storefronts or learning platforms, and their scale. "React developer with 4 years on a Next.js edtech platform with 6 lakh students" is far more useful than "experienced in modern JavaScript frameworks". If you have migrated a codebase from JavaScript to TypeScript or from class components to hooks, say so, because those are common interview topics.
React project bullets with performance numbers
Performance is the easiest way to quantify React work. Track metrics such as Largest Contentful Paint, bundle size, re-render counts, API calls saved and test coverage.
- Weak: Optimised the React app.
- Strong: Cut Largest Contentful Paint on course pages from 4.1 s to 1.9 s with code splitting and image optimisation.
- Weak: Used Redux for state management.
- Strong: Moved server data to React Query, cutting duplicate API calls by 45%.
Also mention reusable work, such as a component library or form system, and the number of screens that use it. Senior React roles expect leadership, so include code reviews, mentoring or frontend architecture decisions.
React interview preparation starts with your resume
React interviews in India often go line by line through your resume. Expect questions on useEffect dependencies, memoisation, reconciliation, prop drilling versus context, and how you tested a component. Only list libraries you have used in a real project and can defend.
Freshers should build projects that go beyond a to-do app: a product listing with filters and pagination, a dashboard with charts, or an app with authentication and protected routes. Deploy them and link the code. Mention testing even at fresher level; a few Jest tests show discipline. If you apply through job portals, keep the layout simple so the parser reads your skills correctly; our ATS-friendly resume guide explains what to avoid.
Format and template for IT resumes
Most IT applications in India go through Naukri, LinkedIn, company career portals or a vendor's applicant tracking system before a human reads them. Use a clean, single-column or light two-column layout with standard headings such as Summary, Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Certifications, so the parser can read every section.
Keep the resume to one page if you have under four years of experience and two pages after that. Put your tech stack near the top, but group it (Languages, Frameworks, Databases, Cloud and Tools) instead of listing thirty logos. Add your GitHub, portfolio or LinkedIn link only if it is up to date. Leave out photo, date of birth, marital status and a declaration unless an employer specifically asks for them. Read our ATS-friendly resume guide before you upload to a job portal.
