How to write a 12th pass resume for your first job
Employers hiring 12th pass candidates for data entry, back office, telecalling, retail and delivery coordination roles do not expect experience. They want to see that you are reliable, can use a computer, can speak to customers and can start soon. A one-page resume with clear contact details, your Class 12 and Class 10 marks and a short list of practical skills is enough.
Start with a two-line summary: your stream and board, percentage, strongest practical skill and the job you want. "Class 12 Commerce pass-out with 72%, typing speed 38 wpm, looking for a data entry operator job in Guwahati" is direct and easy to match. Avoid long objectives copied from the internet; employers recognise them immediately.
Skills and courses that help 12th pass candidates
Practical skills matter more than marks for most of these jobs. Add measurable details wherever you can:
- Typing speed in English, and in Hindi or a regional language if you type it.
- MS Excel and Word tasks you can do, such as data entry, simple formulas and formatting.
- Languages you can comfortably speak with customers.
Short government-supported courses, such as PMKVY programmes through Skill India or the NIELIT CCC computer course, are recognised by many employers. List the course name, the body and the month. If you have completed a Tally, spoken English or retail sales course, add it in the same section.
Using volunteer and family work when you have no job history
Helping in a family shop, teaching younger children, NSS or youth club volunteering and seasonal event work all show responsibility. Present them as projects with one or two specific lines, for example the number of customers billed in an evening or households covered in a campaign. Be honest about what you did, because interviewers often ask simple follow-up questions.
If you are continuing studies through distance or evening classes, mention it in one line under education along with the hours you are available for work. Leave out photo, religion and father's occupation unless asked. Use a clean student resume template and save the file as a PDF with your name in the file name.
Format and template for fresher resumes
Recruiters at campus drives and on Naukri spend only a few seconds on a fresher resume, so keep it to one page. Because you have little or no work history, put Education right after a two-line summary: degree, college, university, year and CGPA or percentage, followed by Class 12 and Class 10 rows with board and marks. Many Indian employers still screen on a 60% or 6.0 CGPA cut-off across 10th, 12th and graduation, so missing marks look like you are hiding something.
Next come Projects and Internships, which is where you prove skills. Give each project a title, your role, the tools used and one measurable result. Then add certifications (NPTEL, Tally, NSDC, Google), skills, achievements and languages. Before a campus placement season, build one master resume and adjust the summary and skill order for each job description. See our resume for freshers guide and the fresher templates.
