Lead with the size of what you managed

At manager level, recruiters want to know the scale you have handled before they read anything else. Your marketing manager summary should state the category, the budget you owned, the size of your team and agencies, and one business result. "Owned a ₹6 crore annual budget for a ₹71 crore personal care brand" places you instantly; "result-oriented marketing professional" does not.

If your company does not allow you to share budget figures, use ranges or percentages ("managed 35% shift of spend to digital") and the number of markets, SKUs or launches you handled.

Connect marketing manager achievements to revenue

Founders and CMOs do not hire marketing managers for activity; they hire for growth. Each bullet should link a decision you made to a business outcome, even if marketing was one of several contributors.

  • Weak: "Handled ATL and BTL campaigns."
  • Strong: "Shifted 35% of spend to digital and retail activation, helping grow revenue from ₹48 crore to ₹71 crore."
  • Weak: "Launched new products."
  • Strong: "Launched a herbal hair oil that reached ₹5.2 crore in year one against a ₹4 crore plan."

Use honest language such as "helped grow" or "contributed to" where sales and distribution also played a role. Interviewers appreciate the clarity and will ask how you measured your part.

Balancing brand, digital and trade skills

Indian marketing manager roles are often broader than in large multinationals. A mid-sized company may expect you to manage TV and print, run performance campaigns, support distributors with schemes and also handle the website. Show this range in a grouped skills section: Strategy, Brand and Communication, Digital, Trade Marketing, Analytics.

Name the tools you use for reporting, such as Google Analytics 4, Meta Ads Manager, Nielsen or Kantar reports and Excel dashboards. Mention regional language campaigns if you have run them, because many brands now grow outside metros.

Keep the resume to two pages, with the last 5–6 years in detail and older roles in a short line each. If you moved from sales or an agency into a client-side marketing role, show that path clearly; many hiring managers value marketers who understand distributors, retailers and media buying from the inside.

Format and template for sales and marketing resumes

Sales and marketing hiring managers in India decide in seconds whether you can deliver numbers, so your format should push results to the surface. Start with a three-line summary that states your years of experience, the industry you sell or market in (FMCG, SaaS, real estate, BFSI, D2C) and one headline achievement. Follow it with Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications under standard headings so Naukri and company ATS software can read them.

For sales roles, every job should show target versus achievement, revenue in ₹ lakh or crore, territory size and the number of dealers, distributors or accounts you handled. For marketing and content roles, show campaign results, budgets, traffic or lead numbers, and add one portfolio or LinkedIn link instead of attaching samples. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. See how numbers are presented in our digital marketing resume example and check the ATS-friendly resume guide before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

Most Indian companies hire marketing managers with 5 to 10 years of experience, usually including at least two years of managing campaigns, budgets or a small team. Startups may offer the title earlier with a narrower scope.
Yes, if you are allowed to share them. Budget size is one of the quickest signals of seniority. If figures are confidential, mention budget share, number of campaigns or markets handled instead.
An MBA in marketing is common and preferred by many FMCG and consumer companies, but it is not mandatory. Strong results, launches and team leadership can outweigh the degree, especially in startups and D2C brands.
