Prove SEO results with traffic, rankings and revenue
SEO hiring managers in India have seen thousands of resumes that say "did on-page and off-page SEO". What they want is proof that your work moved a business metric. Lead with organic sessions, non-branded clicks, keyword positions and, where possible, organic leads or revenue.
Always give a before-and-after figure and a timeframe: "grew organic sessions from 3.2 lakh to 7.8 lakh a month in 20 months". If you work at an agency, pick your two or three strongest client results and describe the industry instead of naming the client. Be careful not to claim credit for traffic that came from a brand campaign or seasonal spike.
Show technical SEO depth, not just tool names
Listing Ahrefs, SEMrush and Screaming Frog is easy. Recruiters for SEO specialist roles want to see what you did with them. Mention the technical problems you solved: crawl budget on large sites, faceted navigation, canonicalisation, hreflang, JavaScript rendering, schema markup and Core Web Vitals.
- Weak: "Performed technical SEO audits."
- Strong: "Fixed crawl waste on 1.4 lakh URLs, raising indexed category pages by 62%."
- Strong: "Worked with developers to cut mobile LCP from 4.1 s to 2.3 s."
Note how you worked with developers and content writers, since in-house SEO is a coordination job. Basic HTML, Google Tag Manager or Python scripting for SEO are useful extras.
Keep SEO separate from general digital marketing
If you are applying for a dedicated SEO specialist post, keep paid ads, email and social media in a short line rather than making them the focus. Specialist roles reward depth. For a broader role, see our digital marketing resume example instead.
Freshers can build credibility with a personal blog or a small business website they ranked, showing Search Console screenshots in interviews. List the Google Analytics certification or a recognised SEO course, but remember that results count far more than certificates.
Avoid any mention of black-hat tactics such as bought links or private blog networks. Many Indian employers now ask about link quality during interviews, and some will review your past clients' backlink profiles before making an offer. Describe how you earned links instead, such as data studies, digital PR or partnerships.
Format and template for sales and marketing resumes
Sales and marketing hiring managers in India decide in seconds whether you can deliver numbers, so your format should push results to the surface. Start with a three-line summary that states your years of experience, the industry you sell or market in (FMCG, SaaS, real estate, BFSI, D2C) and one headline achievement. Follow it with Experience, Skills, Education and Certifications under standard headings so Naukri and company ATS software can read them.
For sales roles, every job should show target versus achievement, revenue in ₹ lakh or crore, territory size and the number of dealers, distributors or accounts you handled. For marketing and content roles, show campaign results, budgets, traffic or lead numbers, and add one portfolio or LinkedIn link instead of attaching samples. Keep it to one page under five years of experience and two pages after that. See how numbers are presented in our digital marketing resume example and check the ATS-friendly resume guide before you apply.
