Make your maths teacher resume about results

Maths is the subject where parents and principals watch results most closely, so your resume should open with them. Mention the classes you teach, the board and one headline figure: "PGT Mathematics, 7 years, Class XII CBSE averages above 85%". If you also teach JEE, NEET or Olympiad foundation batches, add that in the same line, because many schools now run integrated coaching programmes and look for teachers who can handle both.

Keep the figures specific and checkable: class, year, number of students and the average or pass rate. A principal will trust "Class X pass rate rose from 88% to 98% in two years" much more than "produced excellent results".

How to show maths teaching methods, not just topics

Avoid bullets that read like a syllabus ("taught algebra, trigonometry and calculus"). Instead, show how you teach and what changed.

  • Weekly error-analysis worksheets that reduced students below 50% in pre-boards from 19 to 6.
  • A maths lab with CBSE-prescribed activities and GeoGebra demonstrations for geometry.
  • Doubt-clearing slots, peer tutoring or "maths without fear" sessions for weak students.

Tools matter more than they used to. GeoGebra, Desmos, Google Forms quizzes, smart boards and LMS platforms are worth listing if you use them in class. For coaching institutes, add how many batches you handled, average batch size and selection numbers, such as students clearing JEE Main or Olympiad rounds.

Eligibility, freshers and common maths resume errors

Put your eligibility where it cannot be missed: B.Sc. or M.Sc. Mathematics, B.Ed., and CTET Paper II, REET, HTET or your state TET with the year. For PGT posts, schools check that the postgraduate degree is in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.

Freshers should use their B.Ed. internship, a home-tuition track record or a coaching assistant role as experience. Say how many students you taught and how their marks moved. A short demo-class topic you are confident with, such as quadratic equations or limits, can be noted in your cover letter.

Common mistakes:

  • Calculation or date errors on the resume itself, which look careless for a maths teacher.
  • Claiming "100% results" without class and year.
  • Listing competitive exam selections that the coaching institute, not you, produced.

Use the experience writing guide to tighten your bullets.

Format and template for teaching resumes

Schools and colleges in India still read many resumes on paper or as printed PDFs, so a clean, traditional layout works better than heavy colour or graphics. Use clear headings such as Summary, Teaching Experience, Education, Eligibility and Certifications, Skills and Co-curricular Activities.

Put the facts a principal checks first near the top: the classes you teach (pre-primary, PRT, TGT or PGT), your subject, and the boards you know, such as CBSE, ICSE/ISC, IB, Cambridge or a state board. List B.Ed., D.El.Ed., B.P.Ed. or NTT clearly, along with CTET, state TET, UGC NET or SET results and the year you qualified. Mention demo classes, smart-class tools and board results only with real numbers.

Keep the resume to one page for freshers and two pages for experienced teachers. A photo is optional unless the school format asks for one. Compare your draft with our teacher resume example before you send it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Many CBSE schools run integrated coaching, so foundation, JEE or Olympiad experience with real selection numbers can set you apart from other subject teachers.
Most schools and KVS norms require a postgraduate degree in Mathematics with B.Ed. for PGT posts. A B.Sc. with B.Ed. is usually enough for TGT Maths.
List tools you actually use in class, such as GeoGebra, Desmos, Google Classroom, Google Forms or a school LMS. Skip generic items like MS Word unless the vacancy asks for them.
