What edtech platforms check in an online tutor resume

Edtech companies and online coaching institutes hire tutors on three things: subject depth for a specific exam, how well you teach on camera, and whether students stay. Your resume should open with the subject, target exam or board (JEE, NEET, CBSE, ICSE, state board, spoken English) and your total online teaching hours.

Platforms track ratings, attendance and retention closely, and they will ask about them. If you have numbers such as "4.8/5 average rating over 2,400 hours" or "batch retention up from 72% to 86%", put them in your summary and bullets. These numbers say more about your online teaching than any claim of being "student-friendly".

Showing your digital teaching setup and content work

Online teaching depends on tools, so list the ones you use daily: Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams; a digital pen tablet with OneNote or a whiteboard app; an LMS for tests; and video-recording or editing tools if you create recorded content. Mention a stable home setup only briefly if the job ad asks for it.

Many tutor roles also include content creation. Strong bullets look like this:

  • Created 180+ practice questions and 40 concept videos used in the Class XI course.
  • Added weekly doubt rooms and test feedback, lifting batch retention to 86%.

If you tutor freelance, treat it as a proper job entry with student numbers, classes and how you got students (referrals, platforms or local ads).

Online tutor resume mistakes and the demo class

Almost every online tutoring company runs a recorded or live demo class before hiring. Use your resume to point them towards your strongest topics, such as rotational motion or electrostatics, and keep a short sample video ready to share.

Common mistakes:

  • Listing too many subjects ("Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, English for all classes"), which makes you look like a generalist.
  • No numbers for hours taught, students or ratings.
  • Leaving freelance years unexplained, which looks like a career gap.
  • Writing that you have "good internet and a laptop" in the skills section.

If you are moving from a school or coaching centre to online teaching, show the bridge: smart-class use, recorded lessons or online tests you ran. Freshers can start with peer tutoring and a few verified hours on a tutoring marketplace.

Format and template for teaching resumes

Schools and colleges in India still read many resumes on paper or as printed PDFs, so a clean, traditional layout works better than heavy colour or graphics. Use clear headings such as Summary, Teaching Experience, Education, Eligibility and Certifications, Skills and Co-curricular Activities.

Put the facts a principal checks first near the top: the classes you teach (pre-primary, PRT, TGT or PGT), your subject, and the boards you know, such as CBSE, ICSE/ISC, IB, Cambridge or a state board. List B.Ed., D.El.Ed., B.P.Ed. or NTT clearly, along with CTET, state TET, UGC NET or SET results and the year you qualified. Mention demo classes, smart-class tools and board results only with real numbers.

Keep the resume to one page for freshers and two pages for experienced teachers. A photo is optional unless the school format asks for one. Compare your draft with our teacher resume example before you send it.

Frequently asked questions

Most edtech platforms and online coaching companies do not require a B.Ed.; they test subject knowledge and a demo class. A strong degree in the subject and good student ratings matter more.
Add it as an experience entry titled "Freelance tutoring" with dates, classes, subjects, number of students and results. Mention the platforms you used if relevant.
Yes, if it is a short, well-lit clip that shows your best topic. Many platforms ask for one, so keep it ready even if you do not put the link on the resume.
