Put RCI registration and specialisation first

Schools and centres hiring a special educator must check that you hold a recognised qualification and a valid Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) registration. Mention your RCI CRR registration with its validity in Certifications and say "RCI-registered" in your summary. You can keep the actual number for the application form if you prefer.

Also name your specialisation: learning disability, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, hearing impairment or visual impairment. A B.Ed. Special Education (LD) holder and a D.Ed. Special Education (HI) holder fit very different roles, and recruiters search by these terms. Add CTET or a state TET if you have it, since many inclusive schools need a special educator to also be eligible as a regular teacher.

Showing IEP progress and inclusion outcomes

Special education results are individual, so report them with care and without identifying any child. Use group numbers and goal achievement.

  • Weak: "Taught special children."
  • Strong: "Wrote and reviewed IEPs for 38 students; 29 met at least two IEP goals in the year."
  • Strong: "Multisensory reading programme moved 14 students up one or more reading levels in six months."

Inclusion work is valuable to schools: preparing exam accommodation paperwork, training mainstream teachers, adapting worksheets and running resource rooms. Collaboration with occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists and parents should also appear, because special educators rarely work alone. Use respectful, person-first language throughout.

Special educator resume tips for freshers and career changers

Freshers should list their practicum: the school or centre, the disability groups, the number of children, the assessments used and any IEPs written under supervision. A short Projects entry on a case study or teaching-learning material you designed works well.

Mainstream teachers and psychology graduates moving into special education should show the qualification they completed or are pursuing, plus any experience with remedial groups, shadow teaching or NGO volunteering.

Mistakes to avoid:

  • Using outdated or hurtful terms; follow the language of the RPwD Act 2016.
  • Listing tests and tools you are not trained to administer.
  • Sharing child names, photos or diagnosis details.
  • Forgetting registration validity; an expired CRR can stop an appointment.

Keep the format simple and calm, similar to our teacher resume example.

Format and template for teaching resumes

Schools and colleges in India still read many resumes on paper or as printed PDFs, so a clean, traditional layout works better than heavy colour or graphics. Use clear headings such as Summary, Teaching Experience, Education, Eligibility and Certifications, Skills and Co-curricular Activities.

Put the facts a principal checks first near the top: the classes you teach (pre-primary, PRT, TGT or PGT), your subject, and the boards you know, such as CBSE, ICSE/ISC, IB, Cambridge or a state board. List B.Ed., D.El.Ed., B.P.Ed. or NTT clearly, along with CTET, state TET, UGC NET or SET results and the year you qualified. Mention demo classes, smart-class tools and board results only with real numbers.

Keep the resume to one page for freshers and two pages for experienced teachers. A photo is optional unless the school format asks for one. Compare your draft with our teacher resume example before you send it.
